Google Chrome OS, Linux, and learning from Microsoft

A report has emerged on PCWorld’s website, within this review it covers a detailed look into where Microsoft have gone wrong, and how Microsoft have made some poor fundamental decision with their OS releases. It also covers how Google may become a serious contender for netbook’s OS choices.

Within approximately the past year netbooks have become more and more popular, however Microsoft Windows Vista is too bulky to run on these sometimes low spec systems, therefore most of today’s netbooks run Windows XP as it has lower system requirements. With the ever growing an expanding usage of netbooks you would have thought that Microsoft may have released a light OS which would run great on these netbooks, however Windows 7 will also be too bulky for this usage.

Google however have seen a huge gap in the market for an extremely lightweight, quick booting, simple and secure environment for these netbooks to run on, where rather then everything revolving around the Operating System it revolves around their Google Apps which come from a remote location (cloud computing).

One interesting question raised is why cloud computing using Google Apps couldn’t be used on a current stable distro of Linux such as Ubuntu, obviously in the long run its understandable that Google would like their own complete environment but this could be another way of making Google Apps more popular.
