Palm Pre Problems: Randomly power off and battery

Palm Pre Problems: Randomly power off and battery

By: Alan Ng | July 14, 2009 | 12 Comments

In relation to all of the problems that Palm Pre users have been plagued with, phone experts IntoMobile have conducted a poll on their website, asking readers if their Palm Pre phone randomly powers off, or if they have a loose battery.

We have reported on our fair share of Pre problems ourselves, so there obviously is still a lot of issues that Palm need to sort out with their phone.

Back to the topic though, and the main problem seems to be with the random power offs and loose batteries. A quick look at the results so far and there is one clear winner. In answer to the question highlighted above, the winner so far is ‘No, I have no idea what you’re talking about’ with 74% of the votes.

I would think the winner is NO, at 74%….just want to put out a negative story, eh?

No idea what you’re talking about John! :)

Since 24% of poll responders have the problem mentioned in this article, it seems like a very legitimate story. My son’s Pre has this issue; hopefully the “business card” sol’n will fix it until we can get an exchange.

There’s got to be a lot of “haters” out there who are jealous they went out and bought an inferior phone instead of being patient and waiting for the best OS ever to come to a cell phone! Seriously, I’m in retail and all you ever hear about are the 10% who complain or have a legit problem. You never hear about the other 90% ‘cuz they’re busy enjoying their products. Almost every article I’ve seen since the Pre made it’s debut have tried to put a negative twist on this phone but I am one customer who will never own another phone until they can top what this baby can do! Good luck to the rest of you fruit pickers.

@jim;Puleeze! Don’t flatter yourself, or your phone. We fruit pickers are quite secure with our product choice & most iphone users I know haven’t bothered themselves with the Pre. & obviously Apple fans don’t choose a platform based on majority opinion or based on what others think of our choices, we choose our produts solely on what works for us. Don’t be so insecure, suck it up! get some confidence in your choice of the Pre, it does obviously have some birthing issues ,these issues aren’t caused by Apple or iPhone users, but are typical of gen1 issues. i’ve read up on and seen the Pre & think it to be a beautiful OS on crappy hardware. I’d jump ship if it had a bigger screen, and better build quality. The multitasking is cool, but in reality I don’t miss this feature much, on the other hand, I’d kill for the notification system & live/active home screen. Relax iPhone users have no reason to sabotage the Pre. It is after all the Pre that insists on comparing itself with Apple’s iPhone.

I bought my Pre three weeks ago and HATE it. It is junk. It powers down randomly and freezes up all of the time. The quality of the “body” of the phone seems cheap and that it is not very durable. I would not recommend this phone to anyone I know.

I love the sprint service and want a phone that can have the features as the palm pre. I almost dont want to take it back, but i am having problems with it . and the mirror is scratched from sliding it already after 2 days. It dosnt always tilt , the tilt freezes and i know it dosnt work on all the apps. but the ones it suposed to work for it dosnt most of the time. I think im going to take it back and try it again.

I have to agree with Dave on this one, it’s really just generation 1 issues. I love Sprint, and I’ve had Palm phones for some time now. I have owned the Pre now for about 3 weeks, and have had the same powering off issues. I wish I could select a different ringer/ sound for text messages, and at times it appeares to be ‘slow’ or caught on something as Matthew gave an example of with the tilt feature. The iphone had it’s own issues when it first came out, as well as the treo, and the blackberry. When the next gen comes out, I’ll get that one too.. hopefully with a bigger screen and a few more apps, would love to have adobe reader or isilo! or even a handful of the games that iphone has available! anyway, its this kind of feedback that will help the next gen come out better.

the phone does turn off at any time and when i put it down speaker tuching first it will shut off in front of me everytime. thats its sweet spot.

I had my Palm Pre for 24 days before it completely died on me. Other then the fact that the Pre no longer works, it is a great phone. I’m a big fan of the multitasking abilities, universal search capability, and the internet surfing. More applications would be nice, and a smoother calender. I have been waiting now for 26 days for my replacement to come in. I was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same long delay.

  • Justin

my phone shuts off, askes if i want to power down, doesnt do so if i do want it to power down, screen shuts off but the phone is still on cause i hear messages come in, and my sound buttons dont work turn it down but not up..

I’ve had the Pre for about 2 months. Recently I’ve noticed that when I close the keyboard the phone flickers and shuts off. Like there’s a connection loose somewhere. I like how the phone opporates but the phone should be built a little stronger.
