Google Chrome Browser: security issues
By: Jamie Pert | July 14, 2009 | Leave a CommentSecTheory are a computer security consulting firm, they have found vulnerability in the Google Chrome web browser. Exact details as to how this vulnerability may be exploited are not yet known, however Google are said to be planning to fix the bug shortly.
The bug potentially allows JavaScript code to execute, and only becomes a vulnerability if you view-source on particular websites, therefore if you are on a website that has been designed to exploit this bug you could trigger the exploit by viewing its source code.
Not many users will be viewing source on websites; however it is common for web developers to use this function, therefore they are the users who are probably at the highest risk.
Just because of this open vulnerability I would not suggest using a different web browser as many different Internet browsers have potential security threats, however if you are using Chrome I wouldn’t use the view-source function for the time being.
