There is news that Orange UK has become the first mobile phone network carrier to introduce its Mini-SIMs in Europe. There are those who wonder how a SIM could be made any smaller, as it will not be able to fit into a handset correctly.
3G.co.uk informs us that the reference to Mini is just the material that holds the SIM. This has usually been the size of a credit card, but now Orange has reduced this material by half. This will be a huge saving in terms of the amount of plastic used, once each provider uses the Mini-SIMs, the reduction in plastic will be huge.
This is not the only Green initiative that Orange has; they have handset recycling as well as the upcoming universal mobile charger. It is great that a network carrier is taking up a great cause such as this; we just hope that O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile follow their example.
