Google Chrome OS: ARM vs Atom and Smartbook vs Netbook
By: Jamie Pert | July 11, 2009 | Leave a CommentRecently a lot of companies such as Qualcomm, Acer and ASUS were extremely excited at the prospect of running Google Android on their netbooks. Well since the news of Google releasing Chrome OS it now seems that this will take Android’s place on netbooks and smartbooks.
Rather then Windows being replaced by Chrome OS a lot of people see Google Chrome OS added alongside Windows, this would be ideal for a quick booting environment for Internet and Email and other Google applications. This would then allow people to boot into Windows for other applications that can’t be ran in Chrome OS.
The only problem for Windows is that a lot of people only use their netbooks for extremely basic day to day tasks, these tasks will be easily achievable within Chrome OS, which somewhat makes buying a Windows license a bit pointless.
Another thing that netbook manufacturers are looking at is running ARM processors rather then Intel’s Atom, you can see an extremely detailed look into this on ars technica.
