Microsoft’s monthly patch release next week
By: Alan Ng | July 10, 2009 | Leave a CommentMicrosoft has announced that they will be fixing the Moving “browse-and-get-owned” vulnerability in their Video ActiveX Control, in an upcoming patch that will be released sometime in July.
As reported from InformationWeek, Microsoft are aware of the ongoing problem and plan to fix it as early as next week. They are also planning to fix a similar vulnerability that is present in their DirectShow software.
IW points out that these issues do not effect Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, only older versions of Windows. A Microsoft employee had this to say on the matter:
‘[O]ur engineering teams have been working around the clock to produce an update for [the Microsoft Video ActiveX Control vulnerability] and we believe that they will be able to release an update of appropriate quality for broad distribution that protects against the attacks we detailed in the advisory,”
We’ll keep you updated, when the patch goes live. Full story over at IW.
