No matter where you look on the Internet, all what you will be reading about is the upcoming Google Chrome OS. Do you think Google has what it takes to take on Microsoft Windows? There are set to be some big winners and losers with this new operating system, but the biggest winner has to be Telcos.
Computer World explains that the reason for this is that the new Web-centric operating system will drive demand for telecom vendors and wireless operators. In the latter part of 2010, Netbooks with Google Chrome OS will come with fast wireless WAN capabilities, much faster than we have in Netbooks today.
Most Netbooks on the market today come with just Wi-Fi connectivity; this is mainly because of cost. A Wi-Fi chip cost between $3 and $4, this then increases to $5 to $7 for Wi-Fi 802.11n chips. Mini-cards offer 3G and 4G wireless WAN connectivity, but the downside is the cost, this can often add between $50 to $150 to the price of your Netbook.
