Nokia’s GM claims N97 will beat iPhone 3GS

Nokia’s General Manager in the UK, Mark Loughran, has recently stated that the Apple iPhone 3GS is a disappointment to many and believes that the Nokia N97 will perform better than the 3GS in the future.

As reported from MobileToday, Loughran gave plenty of reasons to justify his comments too. He thinks the Nokia N97 ‘mini-computer’ will outperform the iPhone due to lower tariff costs and better camera.

He stated: ‘The new iPhone seems to have the same design and colour, upgrading from a sub-standard two-megapixel camera to a still low 3.2-megapixel camera, and is probably a disappointment for many people given the high tariff and lifetime ownership costs.’

What do you make of his comments? He does have a point about the high tariff costs for the iPhone 3GS though. Let us know your thoughts below.

As always, there are downsides to everything but he fails to note the upside. Stunning screen (both to work with and to see… especially in direct sunlight). Wonderful User Interface and iTunes has a community like no other.

I believe a couple of the smartphones (recently) are really very good but they still lack the applications support that comes with the iPhone.

I’m no Apple fan. Have never owned any Apple hardware until the iPhone so knew I was purchasing it because it was the best device out there. Still is. Sure, if you want to tinker go get an Android (Google) but for everything else, get an iPhone.

In order to make your article legitimate, you’d have to quote him saying that the N97 will beat the iphone. You did not do that

Hmm…what else do you expect the GM of Nokia to say? He certainly can’t say that Nokia blew it and has been slow to market with a smartphone that can even come close to the standard set by a competitor they laughed at two years ago.

IMHO, Nokia is a heartbeat away from where Motorola is. (You remember Motorola don’t you?… made great products but forgot about adapting to a changing marketplace. They still make cell phones, don’t they?)

I am a current Iphone 3GS user and am happy to say so. I was one of those knuckleheads who stood in line to get the first generation Iphone and not because I drink the Apple koolaid. I bought the Iphone because they stepped outside the box and gave us something that mattered; something that caused a paradigm shift in the cell phone industry. And look what’s happened since…. virtually every manufacturer is trying to keep pace with the “new” consumer requirements.
(I’m gonna give you boy’s a little tip… they aren’t new requirements. Apple just happened to listen first).

Personally, I think the Nokia guy is missing the point. Its the ease of use (ie: user interface) and overall usability (ie: 50k+ apps). Period.
But as my favorite comedian Dennis Miller always says, “That’s my opinion but I could be wrong”.
