Telefónica gets Palm Pre exclusive in 4 European countries

We reported on Tuesday that O2 have an exclusive deal with Palm to offer its latest handset, the Pre. This is part of a deal with O2 owners Telefónica, who have signed an exclusive deal with the Palm Pre in 4 European countries.

This is certainly a great opportunity for O2, as they will now offer the two biggest handsets, the Palm Pre and the Apple iPhone. This news will anger those who are on other networks, as those on T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone had hoped to get their hands on the Pre.

Telefónica’s exclusive deal will see the Pre going to Germany, Ireland, Spain and the UK. FT.com expects the Pre to go on sale from October, which should certainly help sales in the run up to Christmas. Has this latest deal helped secure Palm, as they have been struggling from the onslaught from Apple and RIM?
