Open Source Google Chrome OS vs Windows
By: Peter Chubb | July 8, 2009 | Leave a CommentWith the announcement that Google are to launch Google Chrome OS by late 2010, the search engine giant has said that they plan to release the open source code for Chrome OS towards the end of 2009. This latest news will have been a blow to Windows, as it does not take a genius to work out whom Google are aiming to take the market share from.
Tech Crunch expects the Google Chrome operating system code to be released around the same time that Windows 7 is released, we now wait to hear what Microsoft have to say about this. No doubt, it will be mentioned at their conference next week.
The new Google Chrome OS has been designed from the ground up, and will not only work on Netbooks, but desktops as well. Google have remarked on current Netbooks running on the 8-year-old Windows XP, which was only developed to run on Pentium IIIs and Pentium 4s. Google say that Chrome OS will run on x86 architecture chips and ARM chips, which are found in most Netbooks.
Google are now working closely with OEMs, so that they are able to get the new OS up and running by 2010. Google Chrome will be a lightweight OS just like its browser, but like the browser, it will be open-sourced.
