Is the Web browser replacing the operating system?
By: Peter Chubb | July 8, 2009 | Leave a CommentCnet are running a great article, they have said that many people are wondering if the browser is now starting to replace the operating system as the main focus of our computers. Microsoft has even said that the Web browser needs to start acting more like an operating system.
Microsoft researcher Helen Wang reckons that Web browsers need to start doing more, in order to keep things running smoothly and making certain that the computers resources are allocated fairly. Wang says that the browser will have to act more like Windows, let us hope that she does not mean Vista.
In order to do this, future web browsers need to make sure that different Web apps are protected from each other. Microsoft already has a prototype, which can do all this called Gazelle. All the details are now in place and Wang is all ready to present a paper on Gazelle.
