Google Operating System: Will you Download?

Buzz This

We mentioned this morning in an earlier post that Google announced that they are to launch Google Chrome OS some time in 2010. Google Chrome is a browser and is used by millions around the world; this is because it performs much faster than Internet Explorer.

Google thought that they would build from this and offer an Operating System version of its popular browser. The open source code for Chrome OS will be released towards the end of 2009, which is perfect timing for when Microsoft launches Windows 7.

Those who purchase a desktop PC or Netbook in 2010 will not have the choice of what OS they wish to run, but what one would you choose. Most might say that they will stick with Windows as they feel safe with the software, but it is no secret that Windows always have problems and hogs so much system resources.

It will be interesting to see how much faster a PC or Netbook will perform while running Google Chrome OS.

I am very excited about the new Google Chrome OS that will rival MS. Many corporations grow so large they lose sight of the needs of their customers. They become arrogant! (Google is an exception!) Customer service becomes a shamble! One morning these giants wake to find they have been abandoned and can’t understand why. Their mighty empire starts to crumble! Take heed MS! You shoved Vista down peoples throats and they are not happy with this product!!! I hope Google Chrome OS will be a bare bones OS and allow the people choose the add-ins they need or want.

I’m pretty excited about this, and pensive at the same time. I expect the OS to be streamline and fast, but am kind of nervous about the concept of running applications in-the-cloud. I’m also curious as to whether the system will even allow local file storage or if it will insist upon storing files on google servers. This would get annoying if, say, your internet connection went out. Internet connections are not flawless things, and it seems as if the OS will rely too heartily on a bulletproof connection.

And having the OS available for beta-testing would be great. But hey, they’re releasing the source code later this year and i’m SURE someone will compile and distribute it, so we won’t have to wait until mid-2010 (i would assume).

I also agree though that it would be best if it were fully released and shipping out on systems before Windows 7 (which is probably going to be April 2010).

And in case anyone is curious, i’m currently beta-testing windows 7 and it too is a huge system hog (though not quite as bad as Vista). It’s very annoying to use, because it thinks i’m an idiot and warns me before everything i do. It also seems to think that ie8 is constantly crashing because it keeps trying to recover webpages that are clearly just trying to load. I usually only have to wait about 10 seconds and the warning goes away because windows finally realizes it’s not a page-crash, it’s just taking forever because the windows kernel eats up 90% of my RAM (which, btw, is admittedly only 1gb because a chip went bad recently).

ok, i’m done typing for now.

Dude, the point is that we need something fresh. I am reluctant to bring up NEXT BUT Apple has the the right of way because it is NEW. Microsoft needs to go back to the drawing board, but they won’t. What Google brings to the table (hopefully) is NEW, FRESH, FAST. They know what is needed and can ACCOMPLISH it because they don’t have 20 years of backwards compliance ISSUES. Yet, we will see. I do agree with Chris, I too am running Windows 7 and it is STABLE. But the interface is ridiculous. Especially in the Control Panel(Black Hole) area and Task Bar – WTF. All they needed to do with Windows XP is make it faster and prettier and I would have been on board. I have no idea what they where thinking.
