PSP 2 Specs Rumor: SGX543 graphics processor

We have a wild rumor for you to read now, which relates to potential hardware specs of the upcoming Sony ‘PSP 2′ console. The PSP Go is not even out yet, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning out details on the Go’s potential successor.

According to this Eurogamer story, the PSP 2 is rumored to be coming with a SGX543 graphics processor. The article has been translated from Spanish, so forgive the broken grammar you may come across.

More on the processor now, as it is thought to be designed by Imagination Technologies, the same company behind the PowerVR chip for the Apple iPhone.

Other details of the PSP 2 chip include a run speed of 133 million polygons per second and ‘Deferred Rendering’, which was a graphical spec in the Sega Dreamcast.

More details in the link above, let us know your thoughts on this story.

Someone blurted out “so long PSP” on a review for an iPhone game… and they have a good point. I love the idea of the PSP but it needs the iTunes community with the thousands of apps/games/etc. The little games that make the iPhone a stunning success as a mobile gaming platform. I hope Sony are taking note.
