With the recent news that a new OLED mini projector is in development for cell phones, DigiTimes is reporting that Taiwanese firm Foxlink is hard at work developing a micro projector for use in cell phones, one of the main companies that it is working with is Apple. It is thought that Apple will launch a device with these built-in projectors later this year; this will allow both the Phone and iPod Touch to display a video on a wall or other external surface.
The list of companies that are to launch handsets with built-in micro projectors include, Apple, Nokia and Samsung Electronics, with an aim for release by the end of this year. Not certain how this will happen with the iPhone, as Apple have just recently launched its new iPhone 3G S.
Foxlink could be in a strong position, as they have been a supplier for the iPod and the iPhone, providing such things as proprietary connectors on these devices. Micro projectors are already being used in the home, but are very bulky at the moment. The idea that Apple could launch a new iPhone with a micro projector built-in will be going against its usual product cycle, as that would mean two new iPhone’s in just one year.
