Microsoft Bing vs Google and Yahoo

Microsoft Bing vs Google and Yahoo

By: Jamie Pert | July 2, 2009 | 4 Comments

At the beginning of June Microsoft released their new search engine Microsoft Bing, this search engine was designed to rival Google’s dominance. Now that the search engine has been live for just over a month we are now taking a look at how it has affected the market.

Since Microsoft Bing has been released all major search engines have noticed a slight decline in their search share, all of these are under a 1% decrease however given the size of the market this is quite significant.

At the moment current share rates stand at 81.22% for Google, 9.21% for Yahoo, 5.31% for Bing and the rest to other search engines such as Ask and AOL.

Performance wise Bing is said to be pretty much on a par with Google, with both search engines reporting back similar search results, that said its hard to see Bing really pushing Google hard at anytime now. Check out a more detailed review on InformationWeek.

    NOT BETTER THAN GOOGLE !

I was initially tempted to make the switch to Bing, and did run a few test queries to see if it retrieved the information I was searching for as easily as Google, but in the end I decided to stick with Google for a couple reasons:

1.) They are consistently topping the “best places to work” lists because of their great creative environment and innovative ideas…I mean, giving employees one day a week to work on whatever they want? That’s just awesome. And the creators giving themselves a dollar per year salary…that’s cool too. Overall it seems like they actually care about their employees and their company, and not JUST the money. These innovative guys deserve the lion’s share of the web-search market. Props!

2.) Microsoft…do they really need to be even more powerful and wealthy? I don’t see them topping any “best places to work” lists, although Bill and Melinda Gates do seem to be great philanthropists. It just seems too…what’s the word? “Contrived.” Everything from the “verb name” Bing, as in, “Why don’t you Bing it?” to the 100-million-dollar marketing campaign. I love Microsoft for the Xbox and Xbox 360, but they’re not going to be my go-to guys for web-searches.

I love Bing but not as much as google though. Still bing has long way to go to beat google in terms of the number of search results. I could get some relavent search results with bing also. Overall i still see Google is No1 and Yahoo is No2 in search regimes. Bing has long way to go to beat them.
