There have been a number of rumors regarding backwards compatibility for the Sony PS3; just recently, Gamezine.co.uk reported that a German website has received a comment from a Sony employee stating that full backwards compatibility is coming to the next Sony PlayStation 3 firmware in the next few weeks.
There have been a number of patents in the past to do with PS2’s CPU (Emotion Engine) on the PlayStation 3, but this did not offer any indication of full backwards compatibility, as Sony had already been offering this Emotion Engine since 2007.
We know that these facts seem a little confusing, but the simple question is, will we get full backwards compatibility on the PS3. In addition, another question that needs answering, do we want to play PS2 games on our PlayStation 3.

What a silly questions
It’s stupid not to have full B/C on the PS3, unless they’re going to release more PS2’s so that people can continue to play their games. There are a lot of classic games that are from the PS1 and 2 that can only be played on those systems, and if the PS3 won’t play them, people won’t invest in the PS3, but will rather hang on to the old systems till they stop working altogether… Of course, they could always re-work games such as Final Fantasy 7 to make it brand-new for the PS3 and get a truck-load of new customers!
