Have you suffered from the infamous disc read error on your PS3 console? An article we have found has stated that the cause for the error could be Call of Duty: World at War, which was developed by Treyarch.
The news is according to ZKG, who have written a detailed report on how Call of Duty, more specifically, Treyarch’s game is to blame for all these disc read errors.
Midway through their article, they state that they had contact from a former employee from Infinity Ward who had this to say on the issue:
They said that the way that Treyarch’s code is executed and organized causes the disc to spin too fast in the PS3 thus blowing the Blu Ray lens and that is what causes all those disc read errors.

I have the same problem with that game, except it’s on the Xbox 360. Coincidence?
Guys, this is total BS. The reason this rumor was started was because of the massive numbers of people playing W@W. There are a lot of W@W players having this error simply because there are a lot of W@W players. Period. I can’t believe people propagate such ridiculousness.
This is not BS! Just last week in the middle of playing W@W the game froze so i reset it. Then the PS3 didnt recognize the disc that was still in so i ejected and re-inserted it. That is when i got the infamous error. After numerous attempts to get it to read, it finally loaded and just 2-3 minutes into the game it froze again. I tried this 52 times! I also cleaned the lense with a cleaning disc and manually cleaned it. The lense still reads DVD’s, and Music cd’s but when a game is put in or a blu ray it wont load! I’d like to know what TreyArch plans are about fixing this problem. Will there be a download to fix this issue, or is it going to just get swept under the rug! Now I just yesterday put out the 100$ to replace the lense! SO WHATS GONNA HAPPEN?
this happened to me, but while playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. i think it is a legitimate concern, since both Call of Duties probably share that same buggy line (or lines) of code
I got the read disc error on my PS3 since this morning with Modern Warfare 2 after a freeze… Could it be that CoD really is a PS3 lense-killer?
