BlackBerry Tour: Verizon contract customers have order problems

With the BlackBerry Tour soon to become Verizons most popular handset, it seems that Verizon are not allowing customers who wish to upgrade their handsets to pre-order it, it is also stated that upgrades may be blocked after the phone’s release.

A Verizon customer service agent stated that only customers who have completely completed their contracts will be allowed to pre-order the Tour. Another customer service representative stated that even when your contract has completed you may not be able to upgrade to the Tour.

Although this report contains a lot of speculation it is still worrying that Verizon are giving out bad signals to their existing customers, and while I do understand that new handsets cost mobile networks a lot of money surely existing customers should have the same rights as new customers. As we find out more we will let you know.

Check out the full report on Gizmodo.

Are you on the Verizon network and hoping to upgrade to the BlackBerry Tour? We would love to hear your story.

I’m an existing verizon customer but my contract has been up since February (i’ve been waiting for the Tour to come out since all of Verizon’s phone’s suck!). According to all the people I’ve spoken with at Verizon, I can get a Tour, in the stores, on July 13. It’s true that existing customers can’t preorder them, which is incredibly dumb, but as long as your contract is expired you seem to be ok to get a Tour…

I have been waiting for Verizon to get a new Blackberry since January, when I became eligible to upgrade my phone.

Now I am being told that I can not Pre-Order the Tour.

On July 13th, I will cancel my account with Verizon, if I am not allowed to upgrade to the Blackberry Tour.

This is not true, I am allowed to pre order the tou and as well get my online discount and 50 dollar discount! I paid 149.99 for my tour.

So I received an email this evening (7/2/2009)with a link to pre-order the BB Tour, but was only met with frustration and complete disappointment.

As you stated, if you have any existing contract that isn’t ready for an upgrade - guess what - you are SOL. All you can do is purchase a new line or wait until it’s time for your upgrade. For me, that’s a ways off. I contacted Verizon and all they could do was confirm the obvious with no resolution. You have 3 avaialable options when clicking the link. Buy the phone for full price $500, see if you qualify for an upgrade (most will not), purchase a 1 year contract (with a new line) for $250, or purchase a 2 year contract for $199 (again, with a new line). You will a $70 instant savings with the above mentioned prices.

Guess what- BYE BYE Verizon. You stink!. I’ll just get another BB from ATT or T-Mobile. Nice way to treat a loyal customer that is willing to give you more business.

    Can’t believe I even waited.

My contract expired in May. I have been waiting to jump into the BB world since December when I could have upgraded to the Storm. Pleasant surprise for me on the site, my price is reduced to $150 if I pre-order.
