This time last year Microsoft announced that they would be pulling the plug on Windows XP, this frustrated many users who were not big fans of the Windows Vista Operating System. However since this news a lot of people are still using Windows XP on PC’s and laptops which allowed downgrade rights from Windows Vista.
With the release of Windows 7 expected October 22nd, perhaps this is the end for Windows XP, unlike Vista’s requirements Windows 7 doesn’t need particularly good hardware to install and run the Operating System well.
As of July 21st OEM downgrade rights will end, seemingly ending Windows XP’s lifespan, the only way that you will be able get hold of an XP license will be to purchase it from a supplier who still has stock of it, the demand for XP license will likely cause retailers to sell out.
Microsoft are said to still supply XP for netbooks, this is because some netbooks hardware will not run any more advanced Operating Systems sufficiently.
