T-Mobile and Vodafone stall Kindle’s German release

There is no denying the popularity of Amazon’s Kindle e-reader device, and it now seems that the gadget is about to be launched internationally. Germany is Europe’s largest book reader, so it was inevitable that they would be offered the Kindle first. The problem is T-Mobile and Vodafone have since stalled this launch.

mocoNews explains that a report in Wirtschaftswoche says that negotiations have stalled, this is because Amazon has been unable to strike a deal with two of the main wireless companies in Germany, this includes T-Mobile and Vodafone.

Having a wireless connection on the Kindle allows users to download content to the device; this service is free in the U.S. thanks to Sprint. These German carriers are said to be wanting more for the wholesale service than Amazon was offering, but there are also reports that T-Mobile’s parent company Deutsche Telekom are working on its own e-news reader.

For those in Germany who cannot wait for Kindle, then why not try the Iceberg in-app bookstore for your Apple iPhone.
