Should Windows 7 be free to Vista users?

The release of Windows 7 cannot come soon enough for Windows Vista users, and we have since learned that the price of the new operating system will be comparable to Vista. We reported recently that Costco is to offer the best deal with the new software.
Questions have been raised about the cost of the Windows 7; InfoWorld has even suggested that the new OS should be free for Vista users. This would certainly be a great idea, but not one that Microsoft would go for.
However if Microsoft wanted to get in favor with its customers, then a better deal for Vista users would certainly help. The problem is, Vista was hailed as being the best ever operating system, but let’s face it, it failed badly.
The retail pricing for Windows 7 ranges from $130 to $200, this depend on which version you choose. Being a Mac owner seems to be a better deal, as Apple offers an upgrade price of just $29 for Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
One thing is certain, this debate will not go away, come on Microsoft give us something back.

Why the hell are us Vista users, who bought a PC configured with it with no choice to get XP in the first place and didnt even know what Vista was going to do to us, going to have to pay for what really is an Update not an Upgrade!?
I dont have money to throw around just to get something that i should have gotten in the 1st place with my notebook! This is retard. i really think that Microsoft is screwing us all over and that we (Vista Users) should do something about it. Its not fair that just the people that buy a new PC that comes with Vista should get the free “Update” later on the year. It ridiculous, the only reason that M$ is “giving away” the “Upgrade” to the people that buy a new PC starting July 1st is that they dont what to lose money and what pisses me off the most is that what they are basically saying is that Windows 7 is more of an Update not and Upgrade. Apple is a lot more expensive but they did give away some of there OS’s for free without asking their customers for money! They didn’t do what M$ is doing by making betas and RCs and then just giving a certain group within months of its release the UPGRADE for free!
I guess what I’m basically saying in short is that we should boycott M$ until we get what we deserve.
I agree wholeheartedly!! This is the last straw for me with Microsoft. I have already downloaded Safari browser because IE8 SUCKS! My next laptop will be a MAC - DEFINITELY!! MS will not get another red cent from me! I, too, purchased my new laptop with no choice as to what OS it had on it, and it was Vista, which I have had nothing but headaches with! So MS has lost me as a customer. And YES, they SHOULD give those of us who have Vista through no choice of our own a FREE upgrade to Win 7! That would definitely at least make my laptop easier to sell so that I can purchase a Mac!
I was in the Hospital when MS made the special offer for W7. I did not get out in time to sign up. Hence, it will be a cold day in hell that I pay MS what they want for W7. I wasted my money on Vista and it is not going to happen again. I use my computer for less now than before so I might just put XP back in. If I am still alive in a year or so a Mac is in my future.
what kind of person would think it isnt fair to give windows 7 to us poor vista users for free!! do you subscribe to give bill gates my money for junk or are you actually bill gates! what a way to carry on, awful awful display.
I think us Vista users should at least be given a discount.
I just got mine about 6 mnoths ago. I’m really not happy with Vista, I liked XP better, It was a little more user friendly. Maybe 7 will work out better but I can’t afford to just jump out there and get another OS so soon. But if we could get a discount that would be great.
I got my laptop with vista for christmas of 2007. I am over 65 and lives social security. I have had nothing but trouble with my laptop and have paid to get it fixed a couple of times. I can not afford Windows 7.If people have spent their hard earned money for their computers with Vista and its costy them, then they should get W 7 free
