Ericsson taking on Apple’s App Store

Ericsson are making plans to make a move on the mobile app market, as they are all set to offer a hosted virtual store which will be able to reach a number of devices. Normally it is just cell phone makers that go into the app store game, but vendor Ericsson wants a piece of the pie as well.

According to Information Week, Ericsson has seen the success that Apple have had with its App Store with its iPhone and iPod Touch and believes that they too can offer a solution that is similar to Apple’s App Store, but add that they will be able to reach a broader range of devices.

Ericsson has a long road ahead of them if they are ever to compete with Apple’s App Store, as they have been going for just over a year, and already have over 50,000 applications and recently had its one billionth download. This latest move shows that mobile apps are the future; we will have to see how well Ericsson does, watch this space.
