The recent news that TomTom will be offering an app for the Apple iPhone proves that there is now more demand than ever for GPS devices. This technology is expected to keep growing, so it comes as no surprise that Dell is to offer the Dell Wireless 700 location solution for its Mini 10 netbook.
Dell explains that this is a perfect combination between hardware and software, and that this service is certain to be launched in other netbooks in the future. The hardware inside the Dell Mini 10 is a GPS card with built-in Wi-Fi locationing; this technology will work indoors and out and will be powered by Skyhook Wireless’ Wi-Fi position solutions and Broadcom’s A-GPS.
This new feature supports only Windows XP, but support for Vista and the upcoming Windows 7 (launching October 22) will come later. As mentioned above, the Dell Mini 10 is the first device to have the Dell 700 Wireless location solution, but more are certain to follow.
