New IPhone June 2010: Wishlist

New IPhone June 2010: Wishlist

By: Peter Chubb | June 30, 2009 | 48 Comments

AT&T have been coming under huge pressure from its customers regarding the cost to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G S. We recently reported that AT&T were to offer the iPhone as a free upgrade for a limited period, but will have to start charging its customers soon.

We do not understand why AT&T should have to subsidize those on a two-year contract who wish to receive a new iPhone early. This problem will happen again, as there is sure to be a new iPhone in 2010, as Apple have introduced a new model over the past three years. There are some that say that this could be the iPhone 4G.

The first was the Apple iPhone 2G back in 2007, then there was the iPhone 3G in 2008, now we have the iPhone 3G S for 2009. Those who wish to have the new iPhone have to understand that there will be a new iPhone model each year, so you should accept that you would have to have the phone for two years.

The problem is these phones are very expensive and AT&T already subsidizes them, you have to remember that they are running a business; they cannot offer you the handset for three. There are two options, the first, if you want to upgrade to a new iPhone each year, then you will have to pay the price for the upgrade. The second is that Apple should not offer a new model each year, or maybe tell the networks carriers to offer a year contract.

If there were to be a new Apple iPhone for 2010, what would your wishlist be, such as what hardware you would like to see? Let us know by adding your comments below.

    Add zoom on the camera!

  • Martin

    The new iPhone should have:
    - a 5, 6 or 7 megapixel camera (and a digital camera) with zoom.
    - A much larger hard drive (say 120GB like the current iPod feature). I think at the moment they are still tryingto market hard drives, so they will sell iPods and iPhones, but if they integrate it into one, it would be amazing.
    - Unlimited apps. Instead of a limit to the number of pages you can have
    - Talk to SMS, so you can talk into the phone and it writes the SMS for you. That would be very, very fast and safe for those who choose to SMS whilst driving.
    - A decent battery life (at least double its current battery life). I understand they are power-hungry, but surely the life of the battery could be somewhat improved?
    - And, obviously if possible, reduce the thickness and weight but I imagine this would be difficult.

  • Tobi

Yes, Martin in most of the features, you mentioned, I agree. But:
-camera is a feature where you wouldn’t take a 6 or 7 mp one. Either a 5 mp one (but that would be to little) or a 8 mp one (this is realistic and would be enough to be on the same level with the other phones)
-Then it should have zoom and a better video resolution maybe (and a front camera for chat)
-For display they could use an (am)oled one with a higher resolution and maybe a bit bigger
If the new iPhone will have those features then I’m gonna buy it! (If not: will be hard to find an alternative)

  • Dc

I would like to see a better calender. Like to ones on the app store.

  • Ttall

Next iPhone in 2010 I want to see more MP camera like 8 or highter and most important is the slide out full Qwerty key board that will
    make me a happy man.

  • Kacey

I like the idea of a 5/8 MP camera, unlimited apps, and more memory.
I’d like to add a flash to that camera and a way to organize the apps better. An integrated video chat would be nice too.

  • Mark

I didn’t buy the hype with the 3GS and stuck with my (now slow) 3G.
My wishlist would be fairly simple.

Improved battery life so that I could actually USE 3G
Much better camera, 8mp is great but I would like to see a better lens too
Maybe the opportunity to plug in a keyboard or a games console type controller (with a proper D pad) for games…?

Simple but I think that would really improve things big time

    Next iPhone Wish List

    1. 4G LTE/LTE-Advanced capable
    2. WiFi 802.11n
    3. 64GB Memory (minimum) or more (Available for Application
memory as well as app/music/file storage).
    4. Camera Lense on Screen-side of phone (for Video
Conferencing… since easily capable – especially when
on LTE or 802.11n WiFi Network).
    5. Higher Res Screen
    6. Ability to transfer files to/from iPhone and manipulate
files onboard the iPhone more easily for use with
onboard apps (eg PDFs, WORD and Excel files, etc)
    (ie. Onboard app from Apple)
    7. Bluetooth setup that would enable us to connect to
    (?portable/foldable?)Bluetooth Keyboard, Magic Mouse,
    etc
    8. OK… higher Res Camera (with Flash!!!)
    9. Faster, more powerful CPU
    10. BATTERY LIFE..BATTERY LIFE…BATTERY LIFE!!!

  • Neici

Better mps. Better gps. Omg adobe would ne ultimate to keep up with myfacebook games. Integrated ereader like amazons. Oh andaybe a limited edition breast cancer find a cure version with a percentage of the proceeds plus donation go to the Susan Komen Foundation.

  • Janiece

I want a front facing camera, multi tasking, flash on the camera and probably just a thinner slicker design, for those that want more battery get the incase power slider gives me 8 hours before i even dip into my phones battery i love it!

  • chris

very funny to read, but not realistic, to use a 8MP camera you need a very good lense and optical zoom, so i would recommend max 5MPixel with flash but, only the pixel make no good picture
faster cpu only with battery saving mode (like the M series of intel CPUs for notebooks in the past) otherwise it would much energy, and like everyone here wrotes the batterylife is the most important part

  • Robert

I would like a 5/8 mp camera with zoom and the only thing that i have been waiting for apple is to install a flash.

  • ali surodjawan

don’t try to copy the droid with a manual keyboard. iphone users don’t want a Blackberry or they’d have one.

  • Joe

Better Battery and the ability to make Folders for Apps!
& if possible, adobe flash integration.

  • Les

PLEASE ADD SPELL CHECK AND PREDICTIVE TEXT WITH 4to6 word choices when you type with a DICTIONARY and THESARUS !!!
OR VOICE SMS SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO WRITE !!!
    Please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My biggest complant is that writing documents on the iPhone is a nightmare compared to my older smart phone which learned my lingo and entire phrases.
iPhone has such great things, but what I do the most on
my phone is TYPE !!! It should be up to par with my past
phones from 4-5 years ago as far as documents and simple
    forms of writing are conserned.
I’m learning disabled and hope iPhone thinks about everyone
    that uses their poduct.

    Thanks, Les

  • Chris

    3. Better battery life while using 3g or 4g
    4. Talk to SMS
    5. A third or fourth color shell choice

    2. a front camera to have video chat.
    3. A powerfull Processor
    4. More battery Life
    5. an iphone with remote control for any tv ( I think is not pasible)
    6. the hability to send more video over text message

  • Mike

Too many design decisions are being made to cater to AT&T and the US market, that frankly restrict the freedom that the rest of the world has had with mobile phones for many years.

    So, at minimum
    * dual-SIM support for travellers
    * no reliance on Apple servers for push notifications. Having an unlocked phone on a supported network still means no notifications, forcing users to go the extra step of jail-breaking their phones. It makes life hellish for travellers when the phone is crippled under different telcos.

    Ideally
    * untethering from iTunes, which is simply a POS slow and inefficient synchronizer
    *

  • biggi

The new I phone, should defiantly have a Higher MP on the camera, with zoom option.
the volume also should be a little louder than it is.

  • Eddie

Things that I would like to see.

    Longer battery life
    Keep screen same size (OLED)
    different hardware design
    better camera and video
    better notifications system
    (meaning within social networks)
    louder ringing speaker
    better multitasking
    flash in web browsing
    email – delete all button
    keep the phone fast
    previous things are great
    send songs over bluetooth
    no slide out keyboard
    virtual keyboard is great

  • Tobin

All I want is a 160GB or larger hard drive in the thing so I can finally replace both my phone and 160GB iPod Classic. Considering the amount of apps they want to sell you, there is very little pace for them as well as peoples photo, video, and music collections. It is better business for APple to allow as much space as possible so people can gorge themselves on paid-for content through iTunes. I really don’t understand what they are waiting for.

  • http://gleny.com gleny

a 8megapixel camera is so not worth it on your phone… seriously, you can print 8×10 on any over 4.. but a better quality camera, like better focus and maybe better light and dark recognition.

my iphone battery lasts all day, i game, i text 300times a day, and i rarely run dry on battery..

talk to text would be cool.. but i am pretty fast and it wouldn’t really get all of people’s slang..

you dont want it any thinner, it will break..

i heard they want a webcam in the front for ichat.. i am all about that, and led screen should be involved.. less power and brighter

  • Will

I want a flash player. Make it a few millimeters thicker and give me more battery, a flash on the camera, a camera on the front, and a flash player such as adobe. and/or, tack on another $50 to the price and give us another core. I would be willing to pay $350 for a double-core, double-camera, flash player-wielding phone that is capable of illuminating a room and having 15 hours of talk time. Oh and 802.11N WiFi would be nice. Very nice. Come on apple! help me out. dont make me go buy a droid!

    1) OLED Screen
    2) Front Facing Camera
    3) Video recording
    4) Camera Flash
    5) Multi-Tasking
    6) Flash for Iphone
    7) 5MP or above camera
    8) 32gb, 64gb, 128gb memory sizes
    9) Voice to Text for native apps (phone book, MMS, notepad)
    10) Verizon!

  • randy

i would like to see more colors like green or orange. yeah all the other features sound great, but Apple will do what they want to anways.

  • mr.WALL-e

    I think a good OLED screen would be nice;
also a removable battery with a better charge…

  • Dan

That what I’m talking one of everything , luv my iPhone!

  • http://www.goods.com Sal Rosenberg

Flip iPhone would be the best.

  • Jason

    Well, let’s see:
    1 a much improved battery
2 amoled screen with higher res (this would prob increase batt anyway)
    3 Flash support
4 More options with syncing (can’t sync with firefox browser favourites)
5 Greater user control over alerts, ringtones and alarms including calendar events
6 Birthday/anniversary in the contacts that auto sync’d with your calendar
    7 a bit lighter
8 the mute switch on the side should mute EVERY system wide sound, otherwise what’s the point of a mute switch!?
9 multitasking and better push functionality
10 ability to customise your phone display without jailbreaking!

  • Jason

oh, a better camera, 5mp would be good, and a front facing camera as video mins are auto included in my contract!

  • tanmay

whats the screen size??????is it any bigger?????????

  • Rikimaru

    4. Radio transmitter. So I don’t need to plug in the iPhone into head phone jack in my car.

  • rohan

whta do u man not thinner??an iphone as thin as the ipod touch wud b way cool

  • rohan

all ur dual dreams will never b fulfilled, this is apple not pineapple

  • Alex

You can have once set of calendars and contacts synced via Exchange (say Google) another via USB and a 3rd via USB and add more calendars via caldav (like Yahoo) or LDAP if necessary. (You can choose to look at all calendars or a specific one).

Dual SIM is nice for keeping track of small parts but that is a ton of wasted space for the majority… keep it in a SIM carry case and swap out as necessary or hassle the carrier for some sort of soft number switching.

  • The Space Cowboy

i want flash in safari and multi tasking. a better camera and a front camera would be nice too. However i have always felt that apple is a very intelligent company. If they do no come out with any of the things mentioned on this page it will be for a very good reason, even if they dont tell us those reasons. They know what people want and what people have asked for. Anything that is currently integrated in the phone is done so for a reason and so if everything that is left out.

  • Mike

    Just a:

    -5MP Camera/Video Camera
-iChat Video Comferenceing (like regular video share att phones)
-160GB Hard Drive (There is baely enough entertainment for the ipod classic, the iPhone needs the space more)
-A slide out keyboard would be nice for texting

    Thats it.

  • Jay

    1. Different hardware design

    2. Longer battery life !!!!!!!!!

    3. OLED screen (same quality of multi touch)

    4. Better camera (5MP) whit FLASH !!

    5. Better quality of speaker

    6. Flash in web browsing

    7. Faster CPU

    8. 32,64 GB storage

    9. Keep all the features of 3GS

    10. They should NOT add a Slide out QWERTY board !!

  • Dave

yes zoom and flash would be real nice,, slide keyboard is a no no, it would ruin the look bulk and style of the phone… also wouldn't be able to have the same kind of cases.. should add talk to text.. should make it a lil slimer… should be able to be view in all angles like the ipad…and most of all upgradeable SD card or batterry.. and u can't forget skype where you can see the peeps your talkin to LIVE!

  • ray

ability to customize the backgrounds and ringtones without having to jailbreak

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/reneeswifts reneeswifts

Its good to see Steve Jobs pulling this one, even we already have seen those leaks before. I think it's not only great. But Magical as well, in a sense that they manage to improve the 3GS iPhone.

Although, I was realy hoping that announcement of iPhone landing on Red V. Anyway, I guess we'll know more sooner. All the questions about iPhone 4 answered.
