ASUS USB 2.0 Blu-ray drive
By: Jamie Pert | June 30, 2009 | Leave a CommentAsus have recently been developing a new USB external Blu-ray player, while it looks like a device suitable or space travel internally it is just another basic Blu-ray player.
The Blu-ray player is compatible with Windows but not OS X, as for Linux support it is not mentioned so it will likely not be compatible. The drive connects via USB 2.0 and reads Blu-ray discs at a maximum of 4.8x and burns DVDs at a maximum of 8x. The rest of the design is aesthetic not at all functionality based, it even has a bright blue ‘X’ that flashes on the side of the drive, and you can use an App to control its brightness.
While I just see it as another Blu-ray player I can see this being very popular with gaming communities and case modders especially if the price is reasonable.
There has been no price or release date announced but we will keep you updated. Check Engadget for the original article.
Would you buy this or would you stick with a conventional ‘standard’ looking USB Blu-ray drive?
