All Sony PS3’s to get PS2 backwards compatibility

Looks like PS3 owners have something to rejoice over as we have learned that Sony are preparing to bring back backwards compatibility for all future Playstation 3 consoles.

As reported from Siliconera, Sony are planning to ‘emulate’ the Emotion Engine that is required to play all PS2 games. If they manage to do this, it will mean that they will be able to provide backwards compatibility without actually having the correct hardware to do it.

According to the report above, Sony has already acquired the patent which will allow them to start work on this new technology. Could we start to see backwards compatibility in the upcoming PS3 Slim console?

Well, if they can “emulate” the Chip then it means that it can run on any PS3. Not just the new PS3.

The slim PS3 has nothing to do with the Backwards compatibility because the current model does not have it. This is a dumb statement.

Has the slim PS3 been confirmed? It’s spoken of as if it has.

don’t worry everyone i know your all scared little people reading this as your playing an x-box 360 hopeing the ps3 isn’t going to beat you. but sadly for you the ps3 will be capable of downloading BC. and for no additional charge. the only reason they had to rid themselves of it in the first place is becuse companies in Europe were using the emotion engine and Sony did not want to be sued. so they had to pull full BC for a year to come up with this solution. but it made there sales drop. and Microsoft purposely sent out millions of broken x-box 360 so people would have to get new ones. or be forced to buy them. it was a brilliant idea on microsoft i feel. but it makes me hate them more that they can be that sneaky and underhanded.

“it only does everything” is sony’s slogan…except play Ps2 games! I really need sony to put back in BC since I have a large library of both Ps1 and Ps2 games. Screwing the fanboys is not the way to become a market leader.

It seems that although Sony’s PR department is denying Bc return, the patents that they filed for the emulation software and the leaked Sega meeting Documents, and the bloody outcry of consumers makes me very hopful that BC will return.
