Exciting news for PS3 owners across the globe now as it has been recently revealed that Sony are planning to give the PS3 interface a complete makeover as part of a big pre-holiday firmware update.
That’s according to this PCWorld article, who have obtained the info from gaming site VG247. Apparently, the Playstation 3 firmware update 3.0 will be comparable to Microsoft’s ‘New Xbox Experience’, in terms of interface changes.
Other features that are said to be on the way include the ability to ‘rate players’, submit reports to Sony about disruptive players, download game patches in the background and the ability to submit screen captures.
Since the rumors broke though, Sony have stated that these are ‘completely untrue’ and are nothing but ‘pure speculation’. We’ve heard it all before though. Let us know your thoughts on the planned firmware update.

SONY DO THIS UPDATE WITH IN AND OUT VOICE CHATS AND PARTY INVITATIONS WOULD BE GREAT DONT DENY IT SAY YES IT WOULD MAKE PS3 USERS VERY HAPPY!
I think it would be great to have a new inerface. The XMB is good on PSP, But thats all its really good for. The XMB seems more like a portable operating system. With all the power the PS3 supposively has, Sony shouldnât have even put the XMB on the PS3 to begin with. The Pre NXE was better than this.
I got the upgrade and it blows nuts. Why would I want some interactive backgrounds? Who cares about that? Give me a better mp3 player, more formats supported for video etc and it would be better… not this *****… oh well
