Microsoft Security Essentials Review: First Look video
Filed under: Computers, Software

A video has emerged showing a look at Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft Security Essentials is Microsoft’s new security package which will be available for Windows 7 users, best of all it will be available free of charge.
Ever since Windows XP Service Pack 2, security has become more and more of one of Microsoft’s priorities, however this is the first time that we have seen a complete solution from them which is free of charge.
First impressions shows that the interface is extremely simple but also has quite a complicated backbone which allows users to really customize their particular protection (most users will leave it on the default settings). Scan times also seem very reasonable but it doesn’t log previous scans results that well.
All in all it looks pretty good and will certainly be a bad thing for free services such as AVG, Avira and Avast. Although these free antivirus solutions are very good they do lock some functionality for purchased versions of the software, this is how they earn their money along with commercial companies having to buy it. Given that Microsoft don’t intend to lock any functionality down this could cause big problems for its competitors.
All in all a free full solution from Microsoft can only be a good thing, even if its not the best protection out there its better then what some users opt for (nothing). Time will tell if it will become a serious alternative. Check out the video here.
