Intel’s 2nd Generation SSDs

With the expanding competition in the market for Solid State Disk’s a big change has been imminent for a long time. Well the company that seem to be making that big change are Intel by announcing that they plan to release generation 2.0 drives. This may be a big oppurtunity for Hitachi following their recent co-development news.
The generation 2.0 drives will be based on Intel’s NAND chips and by using this technology they hope to deliver a few key elements. These elements consist of larger capacities, lower power consumption, faster performance and cheaper prices.
By releasing the generation 2.0 standard it is thought that the current generation of SSD’s such as the 80GB X-25M will be dropped in price and in turn cause the market to become very competitive, this will ultimately mean a better price for the consumer.
