Avatar awards for Xbox 360: Microsoft beta testing

Speculation has been mounting after a somewhat strange ‘Beta 2009′ icon has appeared on some Xbox 360 ‘Played Games’ profiles. It has since been revealed that this icon relates to internal testing from Microsoft for avatar awards.

As reported from Joystiq, the beta icon is actually an executable which will be available sometime in the future for beta users to try out before it launches.

In case you’ve forgotten, avatar awards were just one of the new features coming to NXE 2009, as announced recently at this year’s E3 event.

Avatar awards are triggered by in-game achievements and will allow you to purchase all kinds of new clothing. We’ll keep you updated on this feature when we hear more news.

I just got the beta update today it is a lot faster and offers a lot of new features like the ability to rate games, downloads, and even download full xbox 360 games. You can also buy new avatar clothes and toys for your avatar to hold and play with like a RC halo warthog. There are a lot of minor update too but like the 2008 NXE, you have to search the entire console for those features.
