Navigon have officially beaten rivals TomTom in actually releasing the first GPS software for Apple’s iPhone. It comes after TomTom were the first ones to announce sat nav software at this year’s WWDC 09 event, but Navigon are actually the first ones to release software.
As reported from Stuff.tv, Navigon’s software will take advantage of turn by turn navigation which was enabled thanks to the recent iPhone 3.0 OS firmware update.
Titled the Navigon MobileNavigator, it features full GPS-navigation and map material and comes stored with a full active route planner for the UK and Ireland.
The only negative part of the app is the price. Customers may feel the price is slightly too high at £37.99 till the end of June where it will rise to £60 afterwards. But then again, it’s still cheaper for what you would pay for a standalone GPS unit, so the choice is yours.

Anybody know a release date for the tomtom gps app yet. They might miss the boat if they dont hurry there ass up.
No I keep searching for news but am losing patience too considering their site says TomTom for iPhone “is here” !
Bought this App. It’s terrible - far worse than Google Maps app - yes - even for turn by turn navigation. In fact it’s so bad, I’m worried the TomTom one won’t be usable when it comes out either.
The Navigon navigation package for the iPhone is the worst nav software I have used for a long time. Phone rings, navi has to reload from scratch. Messes up the Bluetooth carkit link. Routes are like 1st generation nav. Appalling. Hope Tom Tom is better. Apple refunded my money……
