Palm App Catalog: Downloads top 1 million

By: Jamie Pert | June 26, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Palm’s App Catalog has now reached over 1 million total application downloads, this number has been reached in less than a month since its launch. In comparison to Apple’s App Store it falls extremely shy of the 60 million downloads, however it has proven that the foundations are in store for a strong future. The first two weeks were a bit of a struggle however things seemed to have moved on strongly.

At the moment there are only 30 apps available on the Palm’s App Catalog, therefore in a direct comparison with Apple’s App Store’s first month, the average apps in the App Catalog have been downloaded 16 times more.

As some of you may have already read Palm have still not released a finalised SDK, and until this point the App Catalog will not grow hugely, however when it does it has all the potential to become a real alternative to Apple’s App Store. Also with the homebrew apps emerging there are becoming more and more reasons to buy a Palm Pre. Check out the full story here.
