Thinergy Micro-Battery: Keeps charge for years
By: Peter Chubb | June 25, 2009 | Leave a CommentThose who design batteries are in a constant struggle; this is because while they try to squeeze as much power as possible from a battery, they also need to keep reducing the size. The reason for this is simple, as our portable devices become more powerful they demand more power, but then these devices are also getting smaller making less room for a larger battery.
Infinite Power Solutions have now developed a range of small rechargeable batteries, which they call Thinergy Micro Energy Cells. This breakthrough in this technology is thanks to two things, rechargeable batteries and ultra capacitors, and the new Thinergy Micro Energy Cells has drawn from both of these systems.
The Red Ferret Journal explains that the Thinergy Micro Energy Cells can be made as small as 12mm² and 0.2 mm thick; this is half the size of a postage stamp. These new cells can recharge to 90% in around 8 minutes, and can be fully charged 10,000 times or 100,000 shallow cycles.
This is not the best part, once the Thinergy Micro Energy Cells has been charged that energy can be stored for years. The system only requires a constant 4 volts, this means that you will be able to charge your device through vibrations; this can be done through walking or driving in your car.
