Microsoft Hohm Beta: analyze home energy usage

Microsoft has launched a free online home energy-monitoring tool called Microsoft Hohm, this will allow consumers to gauge how much energy that they are using, and then see how they can reduce their consumption. This certainly sounds like a great way to save money on your energy bills.

Yahoo tech explains that Microsoft Hohm is available to use in beta format or a test version for the United States only. It is not known if this system will be employed in other countries. Microsoft has the idea that technology will play a major role in trying to tackle the current global energy issues, and we will not argue with that.

Microsoft Hohm works by using advanced analytics from both Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the US Department of Energy. The system then provides suggestions in ways where you could conserve energy in your home.

Some of the advice that you are given includes simple things, such as caulking windows, fitting a programmable thermostat or removing air leaks from your heating system. Future versions of Microsoft Hohm will allow you to automatically upload your energy usage data.

Auto companies are also using technology to try and redcue our carbon emmission, the US Government has offered car development loans for Nissan, Ford and Tesla.
