Ok i have had the laptop for about a month now and you know the function it has the touch sensitive volume and everything. Well when i touch it, it does not pop up on the screen anymore and even though mute is off it is still lit-ten up as if it is on. That’s my problem! I hate that this is happening and i have only had it a month, what will happen when i have had it after 6 months- 1 year

I have owned this laptop, NV5214u, for just over two months. I have a much older Gateway laptop with a pentium processor and it is much faster than the new one. I am also having problems with the touchpad, internet connections, charging, icons on the bottom right of screen not always showing up, and just recently it changed the screen resolution on its own and I cant get it to change back. I have contacted Gateway but all they want to do is tell me things to try to fix it. I dont think I should have to try to correct all these problems on my own. I think they should offer to replace it or refund my money. In my opinion, this computer is a lemon.

I purchased this computer in June. In September, the display screen went completely white. I sent it back to Gateway for repair, I paid for the shipping. I called to check the status every week to be told the part isn’t in stock. After a month of waiting, I finally get a call from Gateway informing me that the part is on backorder and they would like to offer me a replacement computer equivalent to the one I purchased. I accept the replacement and received it on Tuesday, November 3. Would you believe the replacement didn’t work either? Wouldn’t even boot to Windows 7. So, I was offered, yet again, another replacement. I’m not paying to ship the replacement back so I have to be inconvenienced, again, and wait to receive a shipping label in the mail. Then I have to ship it back and when the replacement is received, then I will receive the second replacement. I’ve never been so disappointed in a product. Be smart don’t buy this machine.

I purchased a Gateway NV5302u at Christmas. My sister was getting married this weekend, so we packed up to go to her wedding. Placed the laptop into a hard case and sat it on the car seat. Nothing was packed with it or even touching the case.
When we arrived, we opened it up to find the screen was cracked. We promptly closed it up and left it alone. Upon arriving back home, we found that the screen was now cracked in an oval shape, all the way around.
I contacted Gateway this morning. According to them, that couldn't happen, I must have hit the screen with something…
I am trying to figure out how I could be driving the car and swinging a bat into the screen in the backseat, inside the hard case. I really must have had fun driving!
I am sending the laptop in for repair, but somehow, no matter what, I am sure they are going to find there is no defect, that I must have done it.
Has anyone had any problems like this? Did anyone else have a screen just break? I could use some feedback to help show that it is a defect.

I have been so disgusted with my Gateway NV 5214 that sometimes I seriously think I would have been better off buying a used diaper filled with antique computer parts. Save your money but more importantly….save you time and energy by not buying this model!! its a total piece of garbage.

I have had my laptop for just over one year. It was working one day and would not turn on the next. Took it to my tech and he said the switch and cord were defective. He tried to contact Gateway but was told they were out of business and was given a number to contact another company. He was then told the parts were not available. He asked them to order one, they told him they could not because the parts were not going to be available. The Gateway representative, Joe Harrison, is always on HSN stating how wonderful their products are and how Gateway stands behind them. I cannot even get HSN to help me. DO NOT BUY A GATEWAY!!!!!!! I am thinking about contacting "7 On Your Side" for help.

I have had this laptop for about six months now, and I must say this is the WORST computer I have ever bought. The performance of the computer slowed drastically within a week of having it, and doing nothing more than using it for browsing ( I still had a desktop at that time). The wi fi is extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY finicky. I dread taking it anywhere and getting a signal, because while it usually picks up a signal, there is always some error in getting it to work properly. It's a nightmare. The keyboard is a nightmare, too. The buttons pop off at the least bit of cleaning. I was using the pressurized air spray and a microfiber cloth and one popped off. I thought it was me until I had two more pop off while typing a report. In my opinion you shouldn't have to be afraid to type on your laptop. The mouse is very loud, and I never use it becuase usually I am in class or in a library, and a click click click clickclick gets VERY aggravating. Next, the battery. The battery life, terrible. It only achieves a 58% max charge. In trying to deal with Gateway, I spend over FOUR HOURS on three different occasions fighting with them, and being transferred from person a to b to c and having to repeat my issue every. single. time. Finally, they decided I wasn't bluffing and really could take my laptop anywhere due to it not being able to last 30 minutes with the screen turned all the way down and the system on powersaver setting. So I breathed a sigh of relief when I finally got them to send me another battery only to turn around and have the usb ports start shorting out. Really, I am truly at an end. This is the WORST device I have ever bought, and let me tell you. It did not perform as advertised to begin with. I had heard good things about Gateway, but they will NEVER get another penny out of me, except for maybe to send back this horrid device. Oh, and that's another thing. In order to get any of these things repaired, I would have had to pay all the shipping, and with a trackable shipper. My brother in law gets all of his shipping paid for when something goes wrong with his computer, but then again. He's with Dell. I tell you what, this summer this laptop is going on eBay, and I'm going to get something that actually works.
