You may have read our article back in early June regarding the Palm Pre’s App Store, well now it is emerging that homebrew apps are starting to emerge on the Palm Pre. The apps are still in very early stages however as time goes on these apps will become more advanced stable.
A loophole has emerged that currently allows apps to be sideloaded through email, whether this will be patched is unknown at present. This vulnerability may allow webOS to become an extremely versatile platform for users, and from many points of view it could be an oppurtunity for webOS to expand massively.
With so much potential for users to create their own apps the only worry is that people also could start misusing this facility and start creating intrusive malware type apps.
There are a few instructional websites that you may want to check out, such as precentral who have a ‘Install a Homebrew App without Hacking’ tutorial, and also quite an interesting article on ‘Homebrew Apps Trickling Out, but be careful’.
