Garmin’s 7×5 series GPS units: problems after firmware update

Lately a lot of reports have emerged stating that people are having problems with their Garmin 7×5 Series GPS units, the reported problem seemed to cause units to freeze up at some point on June 22nd.
The most likely cause of this problem is a recent unprompted software update, the seriousness of the problem is not yet known.

Garmin have recently released a statement regarding the issues encountered, heres what they had to say.
It has come to our attention that the Garmin nĂ¼vi 7×5 series has a firmware error that is causing some devices to perform an unprompted GPS software update and in some cases shut down. Garmin is aware of this issue and we are working diligently on a solution. We know our customers rely upon their GPS devices and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
