Kia Expands: Ford, GM and Chrysler dealerships contract
By: Peter Chubb | June 23, 2009
Kia dealers have only been based in rural and second-tier urban areas because real estate in other areas such as Chicago and New York are far too expensive. However, with dealers like Ford, GM and Chrysler closing down some of its dealers in those areas, Kia is all set to expand.
AutoBlog has reported that Automotive News can see Kia ready to start taking over some Saturn dealerships. Kia told Automotive News that they much prefer Saturn dealers, as they are much newer and more exclusive. Kia are to open up more dealers at former Saturn stores, some Saturn dealers are converting their stores to sell Kia, and Kia are also asking Saturn dealers to open up a separate Kia store nearby. They will then share its parts and service center.
Syracuse, NY based Billy Fuccillo, has turned his Saturn dealer into a Kia dealer, the cost was $2.8 million. This new super dealership has a number of indulgences, such as bathrooms lined with granite. Fuccillo is aiming to shift 3,000 vehicles a year, with a hope of shifting 500 this month alone.
