T-Mobile USA: my Touch 3G announced today

We reported that T-Mobile USA were to make an announcement this week, well we can now tell you that the network carrier is to launch its second Google Android phone, the myTouch 3G. The phone will be ready for pre-order on July 8 and will be released later in July.

According to Computer World, This new touchscreen device is to cost $200 on a two-year contract, and as you can see, is a lot like the HTC Magic. The National retail availability of the my Touch 3G will be some time in August. The phone comes with a nicely sized 3.2-in. touch-screen display and virtual keyboard, this can be used in both portrait and landscape mode.

The camera is not the best on the market, at just 3.2-megapixel, and like the iPhone 3G S camera offers video capabilities and MMS support. The new handset is all about personalization, as users will be able to customize icons, menus and wallpapers.

I for one am very excited to get myTouch3G. I’ve been using an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile for a while now.

I like T-Mobile’s network where I live and the call quality is excellent. I’ve been testing their 3G network out here in LA and I like what I see. They don’t have 80 million users clogging up the network so at least in my area it’s all mine for the taking. ;-) No complaints here!

I text and email a lot for my business. Using a virtual keyboard is good for quick stuff, like searches. An actual keyboard is a must. If only the MyTouch had a slide out keyboard. It would be awesome.

I would have preferred a 3.5 mm jack, but when I stop and think about how many times I’d need it it’s really a moot point. I use my Nano for music and a BT headset for calls while driving.

Discuss more about this phone at http://www.myTouch3GForum.com, I usually hangs out there.

Actually I believe the unit comes with an adapter for the 3.5mm jack and the matching headset.

Uhh. they do have a MyTouch with a slide out keyboard… It’s called the G1.

    • ya boii says:

will it support apps like the G1

      • Joshua says:

Yes it will support apps like the G1. The My Touch G3 comes with Android “Cupcake” which is operating system 1.5 (which is downloadable for the G1 at the moment). Has more internal memory and ram. It basically is a faster, sleeker, more personal, and touch-based G1. It still has the bottom buttons but touch input will be the main.

      • dibs says:

        every android phone has apps

        • ken says:

The mytouch 3G actually comes in a box and in the box is a big case that holds everything and inside is the phone, manuals, usb, charger, headphones, headphone adaptor, gummis for the headphones, this thing so u can make a case and a pouch thing!!

    • NITEOWL says:

can you please tell me how and where can i get an unlocked iphone?

    • ltrainvcu says:

will any unlocked iphone work with tmobile? and how do you get it hooked up?

    • Mike says:

Theres a app that is for the blackberry that can also be used on the G1 and the G3. Its blackberry app world. I think it the hotties thing out, stream live music and no lagging. I havent got my phone yet but its on its way. and yes it does come with something so u can use headphones..

  2. Matt S says:

The unit will come with a 3.5 adapter in the box with it as do a lot of current model phones.

To answer ya boii’s inquiry, the mytouch will be able to support applications in almost an identical manner to the G1 (since they both run the same operating system) only the newer mytouch will be pre-loaded with an updated version of the infamous android. This new version includes an upgrade called “sherpa” which allows it to begin to recognize its users preferences and (at least artificially) begin to know its user. The demos show it finding its users favorite stores and highlighting them on “Google Maps,” or recommending new background images. The idea is the more you use the phone the better it gets to know you.

On a side note, android 1.5 will also be available for G1 users to download after the national release of the mytouch 3G.

  3. Sherland says:

I hope the battery is better!

  4. Rachel says:

This seems like an swesome phone, my only issue with it is the virtual keyboard. That slows down the typing.

  5. samantha says:

my question is which would be better the new g2 coming out or the my touch.,, i would hate to get this my touch and fine out 2 months later that i should have gone with the g2 can anyone tell me what the difference is going to be

    • Manda says:

There is no difference my dear. It’s the same phone, just a different name.

    • aj jam says:

The new my Touch is the G2 but because Gatorade already uses G2 for their power drink T-Mobile came up with the my Touch….but I think it is called G2 in Japan

  6. Sam says:

Why would you want to use the 3G over the iphone? How did you unlock th iphone? — I have been with tmobile for a long time, am happy, but want to upgrade my phone. I’m also looking at teh 3G, but love the iphone. If I knew how to unlock it, I’d probably go that route….. I think:)

  7. Mike says:

Samantha, seeing as the My Touch is running android, and is basically a G1 without the keyboard, don’t you think it stands to reason that it IS the G2? Seems logical to me. I doubt they’d toss that kind of money down to develop something, then turn around and release something else that’s going to compete with their newest phone. That would be pretty stupid.

  8. Hater says:

My touch is gonna be lame is just a more retarded g1. I’m sick of tmobile and there lame as phones

    • David Smash says:

I have been with T-Mobile sine VoiceStream and OmniTouch. The service in NYC is horrible. I get dropped call every day. This MyTouch with be the end for me. Seriously I don’t care what phone T-Mobile go with. I’m ending my contract this year

      • lordgeezus says:

Bye Dave Smash who work for Iphone. Leave us tmoblers alone don’t lie. The phone last 1day in a half when used. Days if left alone.

      • Sean says:

My brothers both complain about poor cell service in NY (NYC, LI and surrounding areas). They have AT&T and Sprint. When they call me, I lose every 5th word of what they are saying. Sometimes I hear one word in a sentence from them. As a rule, it seems NY has the worst cell signal transmittance. Here in GA, my TMobile reception is fine. So it is not any one specific carrier to blame, ALL have the same issues in NY. Stay with TMobile’s superior service and decent phones. Not to labor it, I pay $50 for unlimited calling w/TMobile.

    • maple says:

umm gotta agree with that. umm i don’t understand why they dont have really nice phones. and when they do come out with decent phones.. theres always a tech problem. i think the behold was crapp! and a cheap knock out of the iphone.. i think tmobile gotta stopp with the mimicking of other phones.. and stickk with makingg original phones. why payy for a wanna be.. when you can go get the real deal. if you want a touch fone. go buy one from apple. its called the iPHONE!

  9. Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    David Smash,

Why have you been with T Mobile for all the while if there service is so horrible.

I have been with T Mobile for last 5 years, after being with Sprint and Cingular and can count on one finger the # of times I would have wished for a better service.

And, they have the best customer service, that is the only thing keeping me from switching over to iphone.

Looking forward to the release of 3G MyTouch.

  10. Superman says:

that is right. tmobil has the best customer service
