IPhone 3GS Reviews: They keep coming

By: Daniel Chubb | June 20, 2009 | 8 Comments

Owners of the current iPhone 3G that upgraded to the new iPhone OS 3.0 will know that this update brought a lot of handy features. Many of these users would not update to the new iPhone in 2009 thanks to the higher costs involved.

It’s these users that are not aware of what they are missing. Having just upgraded my iPhone 3G to a new 3GS version, we can tell you that there are a lot of hardware improvements.

On paper it does not seem that much, but when you spend time with the new iPhone 3GS you will appreciate the faster device that seems to perform much more smoothly. Add to that the amazing voice control, improved graphics for games and great video recording…there is a lot of reasons to buy the new iPhone 3G S.

Hands-on reviews just keep coming for the IPhone 3GS, and some of the latest and greatest include; Info Sync’s iPhone 3GS review that focuses on the 3-megapixel camera, the iPhone 3GS video recording capabilities in PC World’s review, and Washington Post writes about the iPhone 3G S Screen and it’s sharper text and warmer colors.

Have you used the new iPhone 3GS and if so what do you think?

I have downloaded the 3.0 to my 3G iphone and the first thing I noticed was that when I am in ipod mode that songs change whenver I move abruptly… whether running or doing some physical activity. Is there a way to turn off this way to shuffle the ipod on the iphone?

While the Gs is very good, sadly, I have to ask, what took so long? Great to have video recording, voice command and cut and paste, even the compass is cool, but while I welcome them, I just wish they had done most on last year’s release. I went from a 4GB day-one purchase to a 32GB Gs. I notice a huge performance improvement. So far, the only complaints I have are the battery didn’t last very long. I hear that’s the downside of the 3G network. Also, the activation/backup process was dreadful. I mostly blame AT&T. Then to add insult to injury, all the Apple stores had long lines to wait for assistance from smug employees who didn’t even appreciate your business.
All in all, the phone is great. Apple set the bar and many others continue to stumble trying to clear it. I recall when the phone was first being talked about and many said it wouldn’t do well because it had no keyboard. Apple’s visionary industry leadership is unmatched, I just wish they could foresee the consumer release day pains & avoid them.

    Hi Chris,

I had the same problem for when I was mountain biking; it was the most annoying thing! This is how you fix it:

Settings –> Music –> Shake to Shuffle –> Off

What I have found most impressive about the 3GS is the battery life. I can now get a full day of heavy use while my 3G model needed to be charged at least three times a day! Although the voice command and video features are nice, the improvement in battery life alone is the best reason to upgrade to this phone. The 3GS ROCKS!!!
