Video: How to send MMS on iPhone 3.0?

By: Peter Chubb | June 18, 2009 | 24 Comments

One of the best features to come from the new iPhone 3.0 OS has to be the support of MMS. We have had a number of our readers explaining that they have not managed to use the new MMS features yet; here we have a video below explaining all you need to know.

There are a few things that you need to remember, if you are on the AT&T carrier in the U.S., then MMS will not be supported until the summer. If you are an O2 UK customer, then there are a few simple steps that you have to do so that you can use the full benefit of MMS.

Firstly for those who do not know, if you own a 2G iPhone then you will not be able to use MMS. If you are an on Pay Monthly or a Business tariff, then once you have downloaded iPhone 3.0 OS you will need to wait for O2 to activate it, if you do not recieve a picture message from O2, then just text MMS free to 1010. Read more on it here.

This video does not explain HOW to send an MMS at all, it just skims over the actual functionality. I still don’t know how to add an image to my text messages on iPhone 3.0

  • Heather

I agree. This video is not helpful at all. It tells you about the feature, but in no way explains how to use it. It’s my understanding that MMS is not even available yet, bc ATT is not offering it until summer in the US.

This does nothing but tell you what is new it tells you in no way what you need to do to actually send the pic message.

This might help… here is a site that has an abundance of links to reviews and articles explaining the release of 3G S to impressions of the 3.0 update on the original iPhone. http://pfx.me/vC

Hi, i updated but had no mms functions, i also had my data network blocked, once i unblocked it and added a data plan to my phone it worked.

my question is, does the MMS use the 3G/edge network??? or is it on the same network as SMS?????

  • greg

hey… can u explain for me in detail how u got ur mmsto work?

    thank you!

  • Frnk

there is a tiny camera icon on the left hand side of the message entry box. press it and select an image or picture and u can send it as MMS. it is Great!

  • erik

Mine does not have that tiny camera icon….

  • Darren

MMS is a separate icon and NOT part of SMS – I have just updated and no MMS icon at-all. I’m Vodafone UK and an unlocked iphone, i.e. full price iPhone (from New Zealand).

  • Dennis

I don’t see the camera icon either. I read that if u are on AT&T that you won’t be able to send mms messages till “the summer”!?!

  • Neil

the MMS feature isn’t available until late July.. you would set it up in your settings once it’s available

My iPhone 3G did not have a camera icon either after I updated to 3.0. But the copy/paste and Voice Memo apps worked and the SMS app icon changed so I thought the update was fine. However after completely Powering Down my iPhone with holding the home and lock buttons until the “Slide to power off” appears. Then sliding that of course and then rebooting the phone and lo and behold the Messages app now contained the camera icon next to the textbox. Try that and it should work for your 3G :-)

i have the camera icon, but my MMS never goes THROUGH! is there anything i need to change in my setting?

  • mike

I tried rebooting the phone but it doesnt have the camera icon =/

  • PetyDavy

for sure u wont see the camera icon on the SMS function till u launch to the setting function – general – network – cellular data network. u will see a function under MMS for you to complete. just set it according to your service provider.

but the problem still have too, it can receive MMS yet you cant even send an MMS..

    PetyDavy!

Rumors have surfaced, Apple has developed two tablet computers prototypes: a 6-inch oversized-iPod version and another with a bigger display. Make sure to take a look at this article, it has potential pictures of what the tablet will look like. http://pfx.me/GX

THE ANSWER IS: restart your phone after you do the upgrade. I couldn’t get it to work until I did that.

  • donnie

after you update, turn it off and reboot. a camera icon should be next to the text bar and an option in picture options.

  • James

You cannot send MMS from the iPhone 3.0.1, only from the 3.1
That’s what I heard. My friend has the 3.1 os and he can send pictures. You go to your photos, then click on the little icon that gives you options, and it should say send as MMS.

  • James

I believe its on the 3G/edge network. Not as the same as SMS.

  • Meg

once you download the update to your phone make sure you restart your phone…then go to your message and the camera icon will be there to send one!!
