iPhone 3.0 Software: AT&T now supports Wi-Fi ‘auto-authentication’
By: Peter Chubb | June 18, 2009 | Leave a CommentIt is being reported that AT&T have announced some exiting news for existing and future iPhone owners. 9to5Mac explains that AT&T now supports Wi-Fi “auto-authentication, this new feature has been made possible with the release of the new Apple iPhone 3.0 OS, which went live yesterday, July 17, 2009.
AT&T iPhone customers have had access to 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots, but connecting to them became a bit of a chore, as there were two steps that you had to go through using SMS. The new system will do away with that process.
The new feature, Auto-authentication will now allow your iPhone to switch from AT&T’s 3G network to its Wi-Fi Hot Spot that is being prompted seamlessly. Those iPhone customers with unlimited data plans on AT&T will now have easier access to the largest Wi-Fi network in the U.S.
We also reported in an earlier post that AT&T have dropped the iPhone 3G S price for early upgraders.
