Claims of PS3’s Ghostbusters Lagging Behind Xbox 360’s

Harsh words have been said about how the Ghostbusters video game performs on the Sony PS3 format compared to the Xbox 360. Joystiq is commenting on an article that was wrote on EuroGamer, which said that playing Ghostbusters on the PlayStation 3 was like going back in time and playing the game when the console was in its early development.

There have certainly been a number of reports to confirm this, so it seems that the PS3 version of the game is lagging behind the Xbox 360 version. Joystiq thought that they would find out what the problem is with the PS3 version, so spoke to developers Terminal Reality.

A spokesperson for the company said that Ghostbusters on the PS3 is much softer; this is a direct result of the ‘quincunx’ antialiasing filter. They also added that the PS3 version renders at about 75 percent of the resolution of the Xbox 360.

The question is, has the PS3 now maxed out, or has Terminal Reality’s engine not up to the job for the performance of the PS3?

What platform do you think Ghostbusters will perform better on?

The biggest damage done here (on a personal level) is to the developers. They’ve made themselves look like total idiots and have lost the support of the Sony fanbase, I’m sure. Casual gamers will forget soon enough (especially if they were to bring out a great game soon… say 2010).

Also, as we’ve heard in the press this week (from other developers)… neither console is truly maxed out. Both the 360 and PS3 have plenty more to come. Just reading the God of War III PDF (explaining all manner of trickery with the SPUs) shows developers how better ways are being learnt all the time.

What makes it worse is that Terminal Reality were quoted as saying,

“Personally, I want to show off our PS3 technology. We’re one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it. We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off.”

If i didn’t have both consoles i wouldn’t take much notice of these comparisons but they are useful to me as i tend to buy multiplatform games on the 360 because i have all my friends on Xbox Live and prefer the service but if the 360 version had bad enough flaws and no muliplayer i’d get it on PS3.
I’m not really a fan of Ghostbusters anyway so this doesn’t effect me but one thing i am curious about is why do the PS3 versions of many of the multiplatform games i’ve tried tend to look blurry in comparison to the cleaner looking 360 version? i’m using a 40″ Sony Bravia KDL40V4000.
