Claims of PS3’s Ghostbusters Lagging Behind Xbox 360’s

Harsh words have been said about how the Ghostbusters video game performs on the Sony PS3 format compared to the Xbox 360. Joystiq is commenting on an article that was wrote on EuroGamer, which said that playing Ghostbusters on the PlayStation 3 was like going back in time and playing the game when the console was in its early development.

There have certainly been a number of reports to confirm this, so it seems that the PS3 version of the game is lagging behind the Xbox 360 version. Joystiq thought that they would find out what the problem is with the PS3 version, so spoke to developers Terminal Reality.

A spokesperson for the company said that Ghostbusters on the PS3 is much softer; this is a direct result of the ‘quincunx’ antialiasing filter. They also added that the PS3 version renders at about 75 percent of the resolution of the Xbox 360.

The question is, has the PS3 now maxed out, or has Terminal Reality’s engine not up to the job for the performance of the PS3?

What platform do you think Ghostbusters will perform better on?

I don’t believe it personally. 2 two sites claiming it have been caught faking things in the past to make the PS3 look poor.

I suspect it’s part of Microsofts FUD storm because Ghostbusters is not getting a Euro release on the 360, so the spin doctors are ensuring it’s got a damaged reputation on the PS3 aswell.

  2. flyingeagle666 says:

yes i think the ps3 is maxed out especially when you look at the excellent graphics of ghostbusters compared to killzone 2, uncharted, mgs4, god of war 3, heavy rain…… (just incase anyone is unsure thats sarcatic)

    LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!! Are you being serious?

Don’t be a stupid fanboy, it’s been reported by lots of unbiassed game sites that the PS3 version is running at 960 by 540 resolution & the 360 version is running at 1280 by 720.

If it’s true that GB on the PS3 is sub par compared to the 360 version when Terminal Reality were bigging up the PS3’s power & potential for this game, then the PS3 is going to lose a lot of GB sales, especially for multi console owners.

I only own a PS3 & will not be touching this game until they patch it, or it’s in the bargain bin at a tenner. When games like Heavy Rain, God of War III, GT5, & Uncharted 2 are on the way, there is no longer excuses for this kind of thing.

If it’s only got 75% percent resolution then it should cost 75% of the price of the 360 version.

I believe that the PS3 is just too complicated for some developers. Valve has openly states that it is for them and dont seem to be embarrased to say it. Folks have been pretty hard on them for not releasing Left 4 Dead and its sequel but at least their honest about why. Lets face it, some companies are just better than other in any industry. For example there is a reason a company like Mcadonalds is still going strong as ever. They are prepared to change depending on what consumers are calling for. Say what you will about them but they are a enourmous , succesful jugernaut in the business world. If game developers dont keep up with the likes of Insomniac, suckerpunch or naughty dog then they will surley never exceed beyond what they are. When a game like this comes out its all about money. The folks behind this game aren not making this game because they love the Ghostbusters franchise. Im sure they do enjoy it as much as the next person but this type of game is a money maker. It will sell copies just because of what it is. The developers hired to produce a game like are usually the ‘lowest bidder’.

you can’t really compare 1st party developers like naughty dog or insomniac, who received vast amounts of support and funding to make outstanding exclusives, with multiplat developers. the ps3’s complexity also means added cost in developing. if you are working within a fixed budget, you allocate your resources according to your potential for payback. if it takes more effort, and therefore cost, to get out of the ps3 what you can get out of the 360, then you will only invest that if you can be sure to make more money out of the ps3 sales. unfortunatly the sales statistics for ps3 games lag significantly behind the 360 so there is little incentive for the developers to pull out all the stops in this case.

Never heard of Termnial Reality. That says it all. Experienced deva don’t seem to have a problem working on a power house machine like the PS3. It’s the inexperienced and lazy ones that need a dumbed down PC(the 360) to make their games work. I wouldn’t be surpises if it was MS that peddles these rumor. This is how they win market share. Not by talking up their own products. But by slandering their competetors.

    • P says:

Terminal Reality apparently did all right with the 360 version. The dumb people are the managers of the PS3. If they’re stupid enough to have a multiplatform game that is this bad on their system and better on their competitor’s, they’re just plain dumbed down. But this is to be expected from the PS3. If you want to play MORE games that are of good quality, get the 360. If you want a blu-ray player that happens to run a few great games, get the PS3. That’s just the plain and simple truth atm. No matter what any fanboy says.

      • Ray says:

I own a PS3 because the exclusives ares in abundance and high quality. The number of and the quality of these exclusives on ps3 far surpass anything on xbox. Oh yippy, halo, halo, halo more halo and queers of war. When a games on ps3 made in 2007 (Uncharted) looks better then the 360s bread and butter (halo and gears) that doesn’t bode well for the 360.

  8. flyingeagle666 says:

the 360 one looks better. fact!
why bring fanboyism into this. i only own a ps3, not because its more powerful or because its meant to be or any of that rubbish but because i like the games on it and there arent games on 360 that i want so much as to get both consoles.
who ever this developer is just cant work the ps3, its more than capable of making excellent graphics for example uncharted 2 is the best looking game so far this gen, its just the developer can’t do it. dont bring silly fanboy comments here either ps3 or 360 owners!
    p.s. uncharted 2 will rule

    • Mike says:

Agreed. When ever these comparisons are done the trolls come out in full force and many of them seem to forget just about every ps3 exclusive looks and performs better then any multiplat game AND xbox exclusive. Xboxers, if the ps3 is so inferior why is it that the xbox doesn’t have games that look anywhere near as good as Uncharted 2 and MGS4?

    • P says:

This isn’t an exclusive title debate. I’m not sure how many good exclusives are on each system, but I doubt that there are more good quality exclusives on the PS3 than that of the 360. This has to do with a company that allows their competitor to best them. IMO, Sony should have delayed the release as to not display how little they care of the quality of their product. That is something that Microsoft themselves should have done with the 360 console as well.

This news just rocks. And seeing the PS3 lovers on this site eat crow is just awesome.

Thank you to both Sony and Terminal Reality for making my day!

    @wanderson75

I work at a game company and look at this email a producer sent out:

“My Xbox recently died again and I’m trying to go through the Xbox web interface to set it up for repairs. Unfortunately, the website is so slow and unresponsive that it’s taking in excess of 10 minutes to transition between pages.

Just curious (reply to me only please) if anyone else is experiencing this issue and what, if any solutions they tried to contact MS. I’d rather not have to call as that takes quite a bit of time. I’m hoping there’s a magic, secret solution that I don’t know about.”

    Microsoft quality = epic fail
