Problems: iPhone 3.0 Update and iTunes Download

When I updated my iphone 3G, it deleted all of my apps, photos, contacts, etc – even though i backed it up right before installing the new software. Any tips on if I can get it back somehow?
Also, now all of my apps are no longer on my itunes account for some reason

I was able to download it but when i went to sync it to my phone they said that the server was unavailable. Is this happening to anyone else??

Up date went fine but my iphone now seams slow and the keyboard is unresponsive sometimes or slow and the touch sensativity of the screen is not as it was befor the update, also i cant get my MMS to send a picture dont seem to have the O2 sentings ????

I have nothing but trouble, the download was fine but then when i went to install it saying that i cant update cause it cant because the “iphone activation server is temporarily unavailable”. Can someone help

It downloaded my update with no problem, but when it goes to install my update I get this:

“The iPhone ‘Matt’s iPhone’ cannot be updated at this time because the iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable.”

I’ve gotten this message since 2:14 EDT.

Any ideas?

mine took 1 hr to download only to tell me there was a problem with the apple server. what’s going on? nothing was uploaded to my iphone!

Help! I have downloaded 3.0 but when I try to sync my phone, I get an error message that says my phone cannot be updated at this time because the “activation server” is unavailable. Is it just busy or is there something I can do to solve the problem?

Is anyone getting a message that the apple application server is down? It’s not letting me update

I’ve been trying to download 3.0 to my iPhone 3G for over 2 hours now, “server temporarly unavailable” each time.

I have had nothing but problems all day trying to download this update. I started off by trying to update my itunes to the 8.2 version and when it was installing gave me an error message. So I tried a different path by downloading the update for my iphone which downloaded correctly, but the second it installed on my phone I was given an error message that read my iphone was not compatible with my itunes any more, thus to my disappointment my phone is now on a locked screen with a cord pointing to an itunes icon. My only option on my phone right now is to slide to make an emergency call.

Again, I repeated by trying to update my itunes to the 8.2 version and again was disappointed with an error box saying it could not install on my computer.

Hopefully I will not have to make a trip to the apple store tonight…

Yeah I just updated and I lost all of my contacts as in never to be found again, however I still have all of my apps fortunately. I can honestly say if given the chance again I would have never done it the features that you gain aren’t even close to the essential items that you loose, I mean shit you don’t even get MMS and that was the most important thing in my opinion.

My app icons are all gone, but if I do a spotlight search for a specific app it commes up, so it is still on my iphone, but the icon is gone. How do I get the icon back?

The download and install took a little over 15 minutes. It went well and no problems here!…. Where’s the “Voice Command”????? Lia

I just updated to 3.0, and my phone is now in a different language. Oops.

My down load of the new iphone software seemed to go well, but it is still verifying the software after 12 hours!

It deleted all my text history, and my contacts. I also cant send or receive pictures, movies, or audio files.

Hi , ive got the update all ok , but did get the server busy message after i installed , Just keep trying and all will work ok !! theirs probably 14million users trying to get it at once )))

i actually had the same problem while updating my iphone to 3.0. I managed to solve the problem as follows: Try to restore the iphone to factory settings on another computer with itune 8.2, then connect it to your computer and when prompting to either make the iphone as a new phone or restore from last backup, restore from last backup….everything should be fine now. to get all my previous apps back, i simply sync..and everything is fine right now…;)

Well my mate’s iPhone was bricked with this update and it needs to be replaced due to a hardware failure.

My two iPhones (which downloaded the update at the very same time as my mates) have updated without a single glitch.

We are puzzled why 1 of our 3 would be total disaster??

was told by o2 that update would be at 18.00 gmt, and at 18.15 it started downloading the update…it took 2 hours to download! then a problem with the activation server meant it wouldnt update. I waited till this morning and then it installed ok, but when i checked my music after the update there was no music on my iphone. re synced it and everything was fine. so far no problems to report, have paired my bluetooth stereo headphones with my iphone and it works a treat. also the spotlight search works great, although it does show emails that i have already deleted. I cant see the point of that, if I wanted to re read them i would not have deleted them in the first place.

My 3.0 update went very smooth if im honest. The only concern i now have is that the phone does appear to be a little sluggish that before with the 2.2.1. It took a while to finally be able to send an MMS message…..i also dont like the way that it send a SMS TEXT. Normally the green box would pop up into that chat when sent. Now it seems to pop up immediately with the sending bar at the top still to complete. Are push notifications working??? I had to manually check that if i had any new emails? I didnt have them PUSHED to the server as promised when i received new mail……
TO SUM UP….3.0 IS IN ITS EARLY STAGES…IM SURE APPLE ARE AWARE OF THE SMALL TEETHING PROBLEMS, AND I AM CONFIDENT THEY WILL BE IRONED OUT ASAP.

I downloaded the update and THOUGHT it had deleted all my apps. Turns out, they were all there…just had a blank page between the standard apps that come with the iphone and the apps I had downloaded. If you don’t see your apps, just go forward one page to see if they are there.

Yes, when i downloaded the 3.0 update it said server was unanailable i was really pissed you have to restart your iphone and your computer then it should work.

My mms does nto even appear on my screen.

I have a HUGE problem with the Iphone 3.0 update. Firstly, I have an Iphone 3G which is NOT jailbroken…it is a perfectly legal one.

When I clicked on update in Itunes the download completed successfully, after which the problems started. My Iphone can only make emergency calls, and it says to connect to Itunes. When I connect to Itunes, I get an error message “we could not complete your Itunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-1). Please try again later”

This happens even when my Iphone is not connected to my Mac. When I try to download an app, I get the same error message which leads me to believe the problem is with the Itunes Store and not with my phone. I can’t even restore it, as the phone summary screen is blank on Itunes.

Any suggestions on what I can do to resolve this issue? In the meantime, I would advise people to stay away from Iphone 3.0, not matter how tempting it looks!

You DO get MMS, AT&T and several other carriers just don’t have it enabled. That’s not Apple’s fault.

For whatever reason, Apple decided that the iPhone 3G couldn\’t handle the Voice Command app, and it is therefore only available on the iPhone 3G S. Complete and utter nonsense, seen as all that is needed to use the Voice Command app is a mic.

1. MMS does not work for AT&T. That’s why some of you don’t see the option in the messages app.
2. The person who lost all his contacts.. I presume you’re using nuevasync to sync with google. They know about the problem.. it’s basically because the nuevasync servers are overloaded, but be patient, your contacts will return eventually.
3. I had the blank page of apps scare too, but all the apps are there.
4. My iPhone upgraded flawlessly on my laptop, but when I upgraded my wife’s on her older laptop.. disaster… i had to eventually do a restore on my laptop first and then another restore on her’s after the 3.0 upgrade happened.
5. My iPhone also seem sluggish now.

i downloaded everything fine last night but today for some reason sense i woke up it says i have no sim card installed and ive restarted it 3 times and i might restore but only if i have to
has this happend to anyone else?

i have the solution, it worked for me and my friends, open internet explorer, go to tools at the top, clicked on advanced, then scroll down to ‘check for publishers certificate revocation. worked first time with me after i un ticked it. hope it all works for you lot.

sorry its not that one , its Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools tab, Internet options.
Click the Advanced tab, scroll down to Security, and untick the box Check for server certificate revocation*
It worked for me.

ive just updated my iphone to 3.0.
everything went well except my camera doesnt seems to function. it does snapped the picture but it doesnt save into any folders.
i checked the data sotrage and i got 4gb left.
so the space on the memory shouldnt be the problem.

im pretty worry right now since i just got the iphone from my mom.

godddd!!! i upgraded from 2.2.1 to 3.0 first i lost all my apps.. thn my internet and 3g has gone it says no cellular data subscribed i am 12 months free 3g internet but somehow i can not get it back plus i want to get back to my old version (2.2.1) BUT somewhow itunes giving me errors like 1600, 20 etc please anyone know how to resolve this issuse do reply me ahhh gosshh sooo frustrated since yesterday!!!!!

I have a keypad lock on my phone and it keeps locking, itunes keeps telling me it wot work till i unlock the keypad which has been fine till now, it wants me to put in keypad pin again, only all its coming up with is “emergency calls only” i cannot put my pin in, ive tried restarting it and restarting my comp but nothings happening, so i have to take it into the shop tomorrow

I updated. Now iTunes doesn’t recognise my phone. My phone has a picture on it suggesting i connect it via USB to iTunes. But it won’t do anything else. I have restarted my PC and phone several times – no change. I’ve gone through iPhone Help on iTunes – no help. Any suggestions?

I didn’t have any problem with downloading 3.0 on my I phone, but when I did my wives phone thats a different story. It deactivated her phone, said I had to connect at a later time, so I waited for about 15 mins. and it came on with no problem. To the guy that said he lost all of his apps. well I thought that at first, but then I got to looking at my pages: Page 3,was blank, and 4,5,and 6 is were my apps were stored. I believe it did that way because the first page is for that search thingie that was installed with the 3.0 version.

My iphone installed 3.0 perfectly but when i start it up after i put my passcode in and unlock my sim it say, waiting on activation this may take awhile anyone kno how to activate it ??? even tho i did get it activated when i first bought it.

My 3.0 download went fine but now on the install it is hung up on the back up (twice already). Any help is most welcome!

Millions of people are trying to download this ONE piece of software at the SAME TIME from the SAME SERVER. It is GOING to FREEZE and SHUT DOWN because it may not be able to HANDLE this amount of data transfer. Please be patient and try to deal with Apple’s lack of powerful servers.

The sensitivity of the lower part of the screen (where the dock is) has become very iffy since the update. I have a hard time unlocking the iphone. Does anyone have this problem?

It took me several hours last evening to get the update and then retrieve my applications. Once I did that, I not have apps spread over 3 pages when it should only be two, and my games are running snail slow. I actually went to the help section online to fet my apps restored.

I have both iphone and ipod touch. The update went good in both, no problem with the ipod touch so far… BUT I’ve found this issues on IPHONE:

I have two different accounts in itunes store, but all my app purchases are only in one (1) and I barely use the other one (2).

When I updated to 3.0 software version for the iphone, the account I see registered in my iphone is the right one (1) but when I try to update the apps, it asks the password of the other account (2), and I am unable to switch accounts since the one that appears in settings is the (1) account.

So, is there a way to delete the files of the (2) account in itunes, in my pc or in the iphone so it works properly with the right one?

Having the same problem as others. I got the frozen screen with the itunes logo and the usb cord saying to connect to Itunes. I finally was able to go to another computer that restored my phone to default, but now Itunes will not recognize my phone, so I can’t sync anything.

I updated to 3.0 two days ago. Earlier today I started experiencing outgoing mail issues. About an hour ago my mailbox disappeared with all my messages in it. I’ve been trying to (re)add my account information and keep receiving an “account verification failed” message.

Has anyone had any trouble with wifi since the update. I have to original iphone and since I did the update I can’t connect to my wifi in my house. I can with my husbands itouch but not my phone. I went to the apple store and the wifi worked but not at my house. Can anyone help?

Are you using a security key for your wireless? if so, is it a WEP or WPA key? Verify your settings for your wireless network on hte phone and see if that resolves your issue

I have uploaded the new 3.0 software…took a while but eventually done it only probably is my text messages are now coming through 2 hours later and none of my apps work..they are all there but wont let me on them even though i still has internet access…please someone help x

I have exactly the same problem this evening and it took me 30mins to figure it out. Reinstall itune and it works! Phew! Good luck

I’ve had the same problem with the 3.0 update putting my iphone into recovery mode after telling me it couldn’t be updated. All I can do is downgrade back to 2.2.1. Guess we’ll just have to wait until Apple fixes this widespread issue.

I bought new iPhone with airtelin india last month , When i got pop up to upgrade for 3.01 i did it after doing it stopped working, Crazy i bought from airtel now it asks for inserting the right carriers sim..Lunatic service from iPhone in India, Pls don’t buy in India. US has amazing service back up…

My iphone since the 3.0 update has become so slow and unresponsive it is almost unusable. The actual update went fine done with no problems in 15mins but now wish i had never done it. Anyone know if there are any solutions? I am going to my local Apple shop tomorrow so hopefully may get some feedback!

I reinstalled itunes and it still did not work. We went to the apple store and did not get any positive result. If anything, they told us that the iphone got wet inside and that there is nothing to do. I am kind of glad that I found other people with the same issue!

every since I backed mine up, I’m not getting calls or some of my messages. I get a message sent failure message or nothing then i restart my phone and see I’ve missed messages.

I have a problem, I have bought a film on my iphone and have downloaded it complitely, but when it came to tranfer it from itunes to my actual ipod ( on iphone) it says: Download error, tap to retry. when i retry it says the same thing again.

yea… samething happened to me after midnight on April 9th that when i forsted connected my iPhone to itunes, i saw my ipod file still there, i was so excited because i can transfer my pictures, apps, and [free] music but when i synced with both, it cleaned my iphone out, files, everything, wtf?! a scam or what?!… i was so mad that i started to shout at Apple (not on phone! O.O), then i saw this message on itunes (computer) "Download 3.1.2" and i though "oh no you don't! you are not gonna wipe my phone's file out again!", so i cancelled it. but then next morining, i was gonna start over again and guess what?! "You are not assigned to a cellular data network" my iphone saids> SERIOUSLY….. WTF IS WRONG WITH THOSE S***TY PHONES?!?!
