We have known for months that the new Apple iPhone OS 3.0 Firmware Update would be released in the summer, we then learned at the WWDC that the software update would be coming on June 17, 2009; well we can now tell you that the update is now live and ready for download.
A huge number of our readers were asking what time the new OS 3.0 Firmware Update would be available for download, but as you would expect, Apple were keeping quiet. Well all I can say is who cares now as I am in the process of downloading mine.
Once I have downloaded and updated the OS, I will then spend some time playing with all the new features. I am sure that I will come back on later and let you know how it went for me. Let us hope that the update does not have the same install problems as the previous update did.
If you have already managed to download the update and already have it running on your iPhone, then please tell us how you got on by adding your comments below. I am sure that the iPhone Dev-team is hard at work on the iPhone 3.0 jailbreak.

Just downloading mine… stuck on the firmware part..
Yup!
I have it up and running! Upgraded the firmware on my 3G.
- copy/paste? SMOOTH
- landscape? EVERYWHERE
- Safari is VERY snappy and renders the acid3 test 97/100 !!
- tethering appears not to be supported by my carrier yet but they say they will. Actually they claim it should work (but it doesn’t: it tells me to call my provider)
- Spotlight Search is the KILLER improvement for me! No more scrolling through pages and pages of names (I have 750+ contacts in my AB)
In all I love this upgrade.
Have fun with yours

As a Mac user for 15 years I am appalled at this download, and advise not to do it now but wait.
It was 1st difficult to download as the severs were overloaded, the 2nd it downloaded to my 3G phone and it would only do emergency calls ( in fact it may have made some calls) then 3rd it was working but in Russian.
It is a complete disaster.

First of all for the last poster. Fix your computer than if it doesnot work you can complain. Secondly the web browsing is a lot smoother also gotta love the new spotlight type feature, gotta love the voicememo addition as well. Not sure how the mms works yet but will get to that later. All in all with the amount of updates done to the OS is quite nice I think.
Nice that they added ability to delete individual SMS. But why can’t we delete individual calls from the call log. Is this overlooked and intentional.
