IPhone OS 3.0 : Background streamed internet radio
By: Peter Chubb | June 17, 2009 | 4 CommentsWith just a few short hours until the iPhone 3.0 firmware software update is made available to download, we thought that we would take a look at a cool feature that the update will bring. The new OS will now allow you to stream internet radio in the background.
We already knew that the new IPhone OS 3.0 would allow for HTTP streaming video and audio, but we did not know that it would allow the streaming of HTTP audio to run in the background. This new feature will now allow an iPhone user to multi-task the Safari browser.
If you view Matt Raskin’s video below, you will see a simple demonstration of this internet audio streaming still working after the home button has been pressed. There is still one problem with this though; you have to go back in to the Safari browser to stop the audio.
