IPhone 3.0 firmware and Dev team unlock

By: Peter Chubb | June 17, 2009 | 4 Comments

Apple is set to release iPhone 3.0 OS firmware at some point today, and from that moment the iPhone Dev Team will enter the next round of the constant cat and mouse game to unlock the new OS, we are certain that it will not take them long.

We are not sure what time the iPhone 3.0 OS will be available for download, but I am constantly checking for an update. A video has appeared on Techtree, which shows an iPhone-Dev member working to find an unlock for the new iPhone 3.0 OS firmware.

The iPhone dev-team have named the new carrier unlock for iPhone 3G ultrasn0w. The reason for this constant cat and mouse game to keep unlocking new iPhone OS software as soon as it comes out is simple, users do not want to be tied down to the one carrier.

Once the iPhone has been unlocked, then they are not tied to just one carrier. We do warn you that if you have a new iPhone, then your warranty will become void.

I have heard from a reliable source that it releases around 6pm GMT for the UK, so as with most apple stuff they do a worldwide release. So quite a wait!

What’s taking the update so long? My guess is in 6 hours from now, because that is when other countries are a few hours into the 18th (which is when they were promised it would be released). I am very excited, but I hope the jailbreak tools are released soon after. Many off us cannot go around without cydia, installer and winterboard to keep us occupied.

Thanks to the dev team and to everyone else involved.

Good luck to all, and I’ll see you again when the update is out for the public to download!
