Apple iPhone 3.0 MMS Not Working: O2 and AT&T problems

Apple iPhone 3.0 MMS Not Working: O2 and AT&T problems

By: Daniel Chubb | June 17, 2009 | 23 Comments

If you have managed to download the latest iPhone 3.0 update then you may have tried the new MMS feature in the new software, and most likely failed.

The iPhone 3.0 MMS is not working on the device we tried in the UK with O2, and this is strange considering that rumor had it that O2 would be ready on day one for MMS.

Have you had iPhone 3.0 problems with MMS? AT&T has released some details about the MMS support they will provide, and you can read the pricing in detail on The Register.

From what we have read it seems that AT&T will offer it’s customers MMS at “no extra cost” with a text messaging bundle and should be coming in late summer. Hit the link above to read the full details.

Same here. It isn’t working for me with o2 in the UK. I text MMS to 1010 as it states on the O2 website. After this you are supposed to get a MMS sent back to you. Still nothing and it’s still not working.

    boooh!

same problem here sent MMS to 1010 at like 7pm and tried about 5 times and nothing :( if u find out why could u tell me plz

Just tried it and it worked for me…you don’t need to do the text to 1010 if you have the iPhone 3G though…that’s just for the first one O2 had the first time around

Ive got the same problem here…. Sent ‘MMS’ to 1010 several times…Had one (sort of) response which basically brought up a blank white screen for a while. After nothing happened for several minutes I closed the screen but still cant get MMS working… Happy days.

Similar problem here. Can send a picture message to others but when sent one just get a link to view it on o2 website.

I have spoken to a contact of mine at O2 this morning. The MMS fault is an Apple problem and not a network problem. That is why most people (me included) got the “Your MMS is up and running” message from O2 immediately after upgrading to 3.0 and it probably worked once or twice. This is a provisioning issue to be resolved by Apple and will most likely require you to re-install 3.0 when they find a fix.
DO NOT KEEP TRYING THOUGH BECAUSE THE NETWORK THINKS YOU ARE SUCCESSFULLY SENDING MESSAGES AND WILL DEDUCT FROM YOUR ALLOWANCE. ALSO, SENDING MMS TO 1010 WILL MAKE NO DIFFERENCE AT THE MOMENT IM AFRAID. WAIT 24 HOURS AND PLUG IN TO ITUNES TO SEE IF IT OFFERS YOU AN UPDATE.
    Hope this helps.

I sent one after upgrading and it worked. I then got a message at 6am from O2 saying mms was not set up and they will contact me when it is ready. Very poor…

    Cheers Jeremy

    Good piece of info

3G model – I can send MMS but still get a text message and link to pick up any I receive…. is this the way it’s going to be or will it be resolved in the next day or 2?

  • max

dont forget your settings have been reset for 3g. where it says idata, you need to replace with payandgo.o2.co.uk.

Same problem here, though my colleague’s phone is sending fine. Phoned O2 support, they acted like I was the only one, the chap seemed very surprised, mentioned that I didn’t have the option on my account to activate MMS, advised me to wait 24 hours, which will be about 17:40 BST, I’m not holding my breath.

Where is the camera icon. Not there?

  • Steve

I am reading that you all are able to send messages, I can’t even send messages, my box doesn’t have the camera button on the side, I click on a pic to send I still only get the email option???

Im on 02 in the UK with a 3G, I upgraded ASAP after 3.0 came out last night and MMS worked straight away for me. Just tried again and still seems to be working ??? I got the 1010 message from O2 earlier which was confusing but i just ignored it. how can it be working for some but not for others ?

  • Nobby

MMS Not working on my iphone 3g either, phoned o2, they said wait 24hr, its an apple fault, try again on the day of the 3gs launch.

  • Nobby

Tried yesterday aswell, have also sent mms to 1010, received a picture mssg at 3.18pm today from o2 saying “welcome” mms now working, but it doesn’t!!

Vodacom South Africa tell me today that MMS will only be a available in SA with version 3.01!!! This tardiness despite their charging $1000 for a phone that costs $200 in USA.

I have downloaded version 3 (took 4 hours to get and instal) and there are few benefits. It is noticably slower now and it stalls from time to time in Safari! It is a generation 2 Phone and 8gb.

Not working in New Zealand either

I purchase an iPhone 3GS this morning (around 11am in the UK, at Carphone warehouse, no queues). I’ve been getting messages since then from 1010 saying “You can’t send picture messages yet because picture messaging isn’t set up for you. We’ll set it up now and let you know when it’s ready.” Shortly followed by “Setting up picture messaging on your iPhone doesn’t seem to be working. Give customer service a ring and we’ll sort it out for you.”.
I txted MMS to 1010 and got the setting up, and failed message.
Just now (17.39hrs) received a message saying “Hello. We know you are waiting for MMS to be set up on your iPhone. We are sorry. We’re working as fast as we can and you should be set up within a few hours.”
I guess they’re experiencing problems then!?
