If you are looking to get yourself a new handset, then this certainly has to be the best week for it. Why I hear you ask, well that is simple as there are three big phones being released, the Apple iPhone 3G S, Nokia N97 and the N86. How often do you get three big phones released in the same week.
All three handsets have been slated for a June 19 release, which means that we can expect large queues outside Nokia and Apple stores, as well as those who are allowed to sell the handsets officially.
There is a tough choice to make though, what cell phone should you choose. I know which one I already have on order, but all three handsets have their good and bad features, so you will have to decide which the correct handset is for you.
The Nokia N97 is the sequel to the popular N96, which proved a success for Nokia. The new handset is more powerful than the last, offering a massive 32GB of storage, this can be expanded to 48GB via a microSD slot. The N97 also comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, and will be availble to purchase in over 75 countries.
According to The Mirror, the iPhone 3G S along with the new iPhone 3.0 OS is the perfect blend of software and hardware, and all previous troubles with the old iPhone 3G S have now been ironed out. The new handset is now twice as fast, and add that to the software that now adds MMS support and copy and paste, we now have a handset that can do all the normal things that we have taken for granted with other handsets for years.
The Nokia N86 is Nokia’s first 8-megapixel camera phone, and comes with a Carl Zeiss lens. The handset comes packed with HSDPA and Wi-Fi, meaning that you will also gain access to the Internet. The phone only has a 2.6-inch screen, much smaller than the screens on both the Nokia N97 and the iPhone 3GS.
All three phones have their good and bad points, and with that in mind, the choice is now down to you. Let us know what phone you will be purchasing on June 19?

have been a loyal nokia customer for many years and n97 is better than the iphone any day.
what price you got N97 and from where and is it worth for money u had spend
I’ll go for the Nokia n86. IMHO it can do all things of the n97 AND it has
- a bright oLED display compared to the old TFT screen of the N97,
- wide-angle lenses (28 mm equivalent) that is what u need when u are travelling.. not a close up of some cracks in the conquery but the actual entire facade of that one big cathedral or mountain view.
- This is something I can make use of compared to the fancy “oooohh” software for moving widgets around of the N97 (that will probably be the primary cause of why that phone will become very slow as soon as you start adding programs and contacts). I don’t write books on the go, so the usual buttons are more than fine for me.
The processor used on the N86 is stated to run at 434 Mhz compared to the 330 of my Nokia n82. That’s 100 Mhz more with a very similar operating system and no crazy trasparent widgets to move around. That means power for the things I need to do not the things that make my phone look cool.
On top of that using nokia maps with buttons is much better.. at least comparing the exp. I had between my n82 and the 5800 Xpress Music.

I will be getting an N97 soon. I have the N95 8GB ATM and am very happy with it.
Currently the N97 is available online on tariffs from ~£40 GBP here in the UK on Orange and Vodaphone. But it is also available through Three directly, from £35 amonth (and no upfront extra charge, 18 month contract).
I like the look of the iPhone, and the latest improvements are long overdue. The biggest draw, IMO, is the interface. However, its biggest drawback is not being able to remove and replace the battery, and apples draconian stance on homebrew.
As for the N86, well it’s just not for me, but looks good.
